Gelonghui September 14 | U.S. pharmaceutical giant Eli Lilly and Company announced plans to invest $1 billion in expanding its production facility in Limerick, Ireland, bringing the company's total investment in the Limerick region to $20 billion. The planned expansion will increase the production of biologically active ingredients, including recently approved drugs for treating early symptomatic Alzheimer's disease. Eli Lilly expects to begin producing these drug components by 2026. This move will create 150 new jobs in Limerick, increasing the total workforce at the production site to 450 employees, with positions including engineers, scientists, quality assurance professionals, and operators. The investment is subject to planning approval, and Eli Lilly is currently preparing to submit a planning application to the Limerick City and County Council. Eli Lilly also announced an $800 million expansion of its plant in Kinsale, County Cork, which began producing medications for diabetes and obesity last year.
