On September 13, 2024, Roche presented the latest clinical advancements in its GLP-1 pipeline during the EASD conference.

Roche's GLP-1 pipeline was acquired through the purchase of Carmot Therapeutics, with the core being the GLP-1/GIP dual-target agonist CT-388 and the small molecule GLP-1 receptor agonist CT-996.

The obesity market size is expected to exceed USD 100 billion by 2030, with GLP-1 based drugs dominating the R&D pipeline, while an increasing number of new mechanism products are also emerging.

Roche's GLP-1 pipeline features a well-differentiated design, primarily through the minimization of β-arrestin activity.

Removing β-arrestin activity can prolong the efficacy of blood sugar reduction and weight loss, while also potentially improving tolerance.

GLP-1/GIP Dual Agonist CT-388 Achieves Up to 18.9% Weight Loss Over 24 Weeks.

Small molecule GLP-1 receptor agonist CT-996 achieves 7.3% weight loss after 4 weeks of treatment.

Summary
The vast market potential for weight loss is attracting an increasing number of differentiated innovation strategies, with MNCs also vying to secure their position in this field. Roche has opted to acquire Carmot Therapeutics for $2.8 billion, a company specializing in the removal of β-arrestin activity. So far, interim clinical data has shown promising efficacy potential, and further clinical progress is anticipated.
