AstraZeneca Inks Over $2 Billion Deal to License ShiPharm's Novel Oral Lp(a) Inhibitor YS2302018 for Cardiovascular Disease

Today(October 7), AstraZeneca(AstraZeneca) ChinaAnnounced an exclusive licensing agreement with CSPC to advance the development of aPreclinical Innovative Small Molecule Lipoprotein(a) (Lp(a)) InhibitorAstraZeneca will acquire CSPCPreclinical Candidate Small Molecule Drug YS2302018, an Oral Lipoprotein(a) Inhibitor, for the development of novel lipid-lowering therapies, as well as for single or combination treatments for various cardiovascular diseases, including use in combination with the oral small-molecule PCSK9 inhibitor AZD0780.

According to the terms of the agreement, CSPC will obtain$100 million upfront payment. In addition, CSPC will also be eligible to obtainUp to US$1.92 billion in development and commercialization milestone payments, as well as tiered royalties.

According to AstraZeneca's press release, YS2302018 was discovered by CSPC.And proven by data to effectively prevent the formation of lipoprotein(a).Lipoprotein(a) is a low-density lipoprotein (LDL) that plays a key role in cholesterol transport in the blood. Elevated levels of lipoprotein(a), along with elevated low-density lipoprotein cholesterol, are known risk factors for cardiovascular diseases, including coronary heart disease and stroke.

AstraZeneca's press release stated that YS2302018 has the potential to bring more benefits to patients with dyslipidemia, further strengthening their cardiovascular product pipeline and helping to address major risk factors leading to chronic cardiovascular diseases.
