Roche and Dyno Therapeutics Forge $1B+ AI-Driven Partnership to Advance Next-Gen Gene Therapies for Neurological Diseases

Dyno Therapeutics is an innovative company in the biotechnology field that leverages artificial intelligence (AI) to advance in vivo gene delivery. The platform uses AI to rapidly synthesize adeno-associated virus (AAV) capsids in the most optimal way.

Existing gene therapies have shown some success but face numerous challenges. For instance, the main types of naturally occurring adeno-associated virus (AAV) vectors used are limited, with low delivery efficiency. Patients may also have antibodies that neutralize these vectors, and manufacturing difficulties exist. To overcome these bottlenecks, Dyno Therapeutics is the first to apply AI and high-throughput in vivo data collection technology to the engineering modification of AAV capsids, aiming to improve tissue targeting, immune evasion, and manufacturability. Its LEAPSM technology is particularly powerful, capable of performing billions of sequence-function tests in animals each month, greatly accelerating capsid optimization and increasing the success rate of treatments.

In this collaboration, Dyno Therapeutics is responsible for designing and discovering novel AAV capsids with improved functional properties. Roche, as a globally renowned pharmaceutical company, will be in charge of conducting capsid validation studies and advancing the clinical and commercial activities of multiple neurogene therapy candidates. This collaborative model fully leverages the strengths of both parties, injecting strong momentum into the development of gene therapies.

Roche has recently been adjusting its business in the field of neurology. On October 22 local time, Roche terminated its R&D collaboration with UCB for the co-treatment of Alzheimer's disease. In January this year, Roche also ended its partnership with AC Immune for the development of related drugs for Alzheimer’s disease. However, Roche has made significant positive progress in Alzheimer’s research. In March 2024, Roche announced encouraging Phase 1b/2a data for its investigational antibody trontinemab targeting Alzheimer's disease, which significantly reduced mean amyloid levels in the brain. Last month, the mid-term data for its BTK inhibitor fenebrutinib in the treatment of relapsing multiple sclerosis was also robust, almost completely suppressing disease symptoms.

This collaboration with Dyno Therapeutics further demonstrates Roche's firm commitment to the field of neurological disease treatment. It is believed that with the joint efforts of both parties, the next generation of gene therapy will bring better treatment outcomes for patients with neurological disorders.
