Eli Lilly (LLY.US) announced on Monday that Mirikizumab (brand name Omvoh) demonstrated long-term efficacy in treating ulcerative colitis (UC) and Crohn's disease.

The pharmaceutical company claims that, based on the results of two Phase 3 studies targeting moderate to severe active UC and Crohn's disease, Omvoh is the first and only IL23p19 antagonist reported to have long-term, multi-year, sustained efficacy and safety for both conditions.

In UC studies, 81% of patients maintained long-term clinical remission after three years of treatment, and 82% achieved long-term remission endoscopically.

In Crohn's disease studies, 87% of patients achieved clinical remission, and 54% achieved endoscopic remission.

According to reports, Omvoh was approved by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) in October 2023 as the first drug of its kind for treating adult UC. The drug has also been approved in 44 countries worldwide. Eli Lilly and Company is currently submitting marketing applications for Crohn's disease in the United States, Canada, Europe, Japan, and China, with plans to file additional global regulatory documents.

Earlier this month, Eli Lilly also reported positive data from a year-long Phase III study comparing its drug with Johnson & Johnson's (JNJ.US) Stelara in the treatment of Crohn's disease.
