Developer of Interventional Devices for Heart Failure

The initial case of Adona Medical's adjustable atrial shunt for heart failure was performed in the Republic of Georgia, led by George Khabeishvili and supported by American experts Gagan Singh, Edris Aman, and the Adona Medical team.
Recently, Adona Medical announced the first successful human use of its novel atrial shunt procedure in heart failure patients. The initial case was performed by George Khabeishvili (Tbilisi Heart and Vascular Clinic, Republic of Georgia) and supported by U.S. heart failure experts Gagan Singh and Edris Aman.
"The Adona implant represents the next generation of shunt technology, designed for dynamic interatrial blood flow and customizable to meet the specific blood flow needs of patients," said Singh, director of the Clinical Cardiovascular Research Unit at the University of California, Davis (Davis, USA). "Heart failure is not a static disease; it requires lifelong management. The combination of adjustable shunt size and atrial pressure measurement represents a tremendous leap forward in device-based treatment solutions."
The Adona device includes a shunt with an adjustable geometry flow channel that can be expanded or reduced after implantation by using a proprietary guiding catheter.

Compared with current shunt technologies, this configurability has the potential for more personalized treatment, characterized by a flow channel with a fixed geometry. In addition, the Adona device has integrated sensors designed to capture pressure readings from the left and right atria multiple times a day without patient intervention. These daily readings are expected to provide doctors with a more comprehensive understanding of the patient's hemodynamic status and could enhance shunt therapy by enabling more informed medical management.
"The success of the initial clinical cases represents an important milestone in our mission to provide improved solutions for heart failure management. We are now one step closer to validating the potential benefits that Adona technology may offer to a fragile and suffering patient population," said Brian Fahey, co-founder and CEO of Adona Medical. "This has been a tremendous team effort, and I want to thank all Adona employees for their many contributions, as well as our clinical collaborators for their valuable insights guiding us on this incredible journey."
