The 7th China International Import Expo (CIIE) enters the 10-day countdown. Medtronic will showcase nearly a hundred innovative products at this year’s CIIE under the theme of "Further Beauty, Extraordinary Together." This includes seven first-time exhibits and nearly 20 star product representatives. This year marks the 75th anniversary of Medtronic's global innovation and its 35th year of deep cultivation in China. From the world to China, Medtronic has always adhered to its mission of "alleviating pain, restoring health, and extending life." Relying on the strong influence of the CIIE platform, it accelerates innovation to empower new productive forces in China's local medical industry, jointly building life and health, and creating extraordinary changes.
Medtronic's Global Senior Vice President and Greater China President, Gu Yushao, stated: "Medtronic has been a long-term participant, witness, and beneficiary of the China International Import Expo (CIIE). Thanks to the CIIE platform, Medtronic has accelerated the introduction and implementation of numerous globally leading innovative medical technologies and solutions, better meeting the diverse and high-quality healthcare needs of local patients. We look forward to further expanding our 'circle of friends' in China's medical ecosystem through this year’s CIIE, deepening cooperation with all partners, and contributing to the high-quality development of China’s healthcare system."
"The 'Spillover Effect' Continues to Expand, Empowering the Development of New Quality Productivity in Healthcare Across Multiple Dimensions"
The "Spillover Effect" of the CIIE is continuously driving the layout and upgrading of Medtronic's local value chain. On October 18, Medtronic Kangdi signed an investment cooperation agreement with the Changzhou National High-Tech Industrial Development Zone to jointly build a "Smart Manufacturing" base and "Innovation" center that integrates the production and manufacturing of high-end surgical products and equipment with innovative R&D incubation. Kangdi will introduce advanced products and new technologies from Medtronic's Surgical Division to strengthen the localization strategy of integrated solutions for major surgeries and create a medical technology innovation hub in the Yangtze River Delta.
As a microcosm, Medtronic has made numerous local investments that have stood the test of time and yielded fruitful results. Since its upgrade in 2022, the Medtronic Kanghui Changzhou Science and Technology Park has served a dual role as both the global production base for Medtronic's orthopedics and neurosurgery divisions and the global headquarters for Kanghui Medical. Within this science park, multiple localized orthopedic and neurosurgical products have been successfully developed, including the first locally produced spinal surgery robot by Medtronic, the Mazor XC, the first China-produced spinal surgery navigation system, the Qinhang EngineNav, and the intraoperative neuromonitoring system NIM-Eclipse. Meanwhile, the Medtronic Lingang Medical Technology Industry Base, inaugurated in 2023, completed the rollout of its first product in March this year.
Rooted in innovation, Medtronic has consistently enhanced its local R&D capabilities in China. Ji Ling, head of Medtronic's China R&D Center, stated that since its establishment in 2012, the center has developed a total of 65 products, with over 50 successfully launched in the market, and 23 achieving global sales. Among these, the localization project for the RespArray patient monitor, initiated in 2022, has already completed product development and testing within just one year and has been submitted to the National Medical Products Administration (NMPA) for approval, with the potential to launch by the end of this year. In terms of blood glucose management, the leading smart blood glucose management workstation co-developed by Medtronic’s China R&D Center features advanced information technology and real-time high/low blood glucose alert functions, enabling intelligent hospital-wide blood glucose management.
Medtronic and the CIIE Have Walked Hand in Hand Until Now, with Nearly 20 "Star Products" of the CIIE Transitioning from "Exhibits to Commodities," Better Serving Local Doctors and Patients. For Example, the Medtronic StealthStation FlexENT ENT Surgical Navigation System Was Approved for Marketing in August This Year, Enhancing Intraoperative Visualization, Unveiling the Veil of the "Surgical Forbidden Zone" - the Skull Base Area, and Assisting in Optimizing Endoscopic Sinus Surgery; The Symplicity Spyral RDN System for Treating Resistant Hypertension via Interventional Surgery Was Approved for Marketing in April This Year; The First Localized Product in China's Neurointervention Field by a Foreign Brand, MeiAnXin Coil, a Mechanically Detachable Coil, Was Launched in 2023; The Debut of PillCam Small Bowel Capsule Endoscopy Allows People Over Two Years Old to Undergo Non-Invasive Small Bowel Examination.
Accelerate "Medical Innovation" and Strengthen the Core Development of New Quality Medical Productivity
At Medtronic's pre-exhibition warm-up meeting, seven products making their debut were previewed in advance. The globally first showcased CoreValve Evolut FX+ Transcatheter Aortic Valve Replacement System*, compared to Medtronic’s previous generation TAVR product, features a fully upgraded design with a "large" window on the valve frame. This design concept provides more space for future coronary interventional catheter operations.
Four Asia-Pacific premier exhibits focus on neuromodulation, pain management, and cardiac and vascular fields, meeting clinical treatment needs through innovative technologies. These include: Percept RC*, the world’s first rechargeable deep brain stimulation device with sensing capabilities (commonly known as a brain pacemaker) for treating brain disorders such as Parkinson's disease, essential tremor, epilepsy, and dystonia; Medtronic’s next-generation SynchroMed III implantable drug infusion pump*, which delivers medication directly into the intrathecal space of the spinal cord to treat cancer pain, other chronic pain, and spasticity; the VitalFlow ECMO system*, designed to provide life support for critically ill patients and characterized by its high integration, portability, and ease of operation, suitable for ECMO bedside and transport scenarios; and the Penditure Left Atrial Appendage Closure System*, specifically designed for surgical treatment of left atrial appendage management and prevention of cardioembolic stroke, reducing the risk of stroke in patients with atrial fibrillation due to its flexible design and high-precision closure capability.
In addition, Medtronic will also bring two China-first products focusing on the cardiac and vascular fields. The Nitron CryoConsole* for cryoablation in cardiac atrial fibrillation surgeries, and the Tri-Ad 2.0 Adams Tricuspid Annuloplasty Band* for valvular surgical procedures.
