Gelonghui November 4th | Novo Nordisk's appetite-suppressing injection, semaglutide (marketed under the brands Ozempic and Wegovy), is likely to become the world’s best-selling drug series next year. It has opened up a market that could reach $130 billion by 2030. However, to maintain its leading position in the highly competitive obesity field, Novo Nordisk must prove before December that it has a superior product. The main rival of this Danish pharmaceutical company, Eli Lilly, has launched another injection—tirzepatide—which so far has demonstrated better weight loss results than Wegovy. A group of other companies are closely following these two leaders, introducing next-generation drugs, including potentially more effective injections and possibly easier-to-take simple pills.
