November 4,Lonza's Synfache B.V. Announces Licensing of ADC Technology to BigHat Biosciences, Inc. ("BigHat"), Focusing on Commercializing Its Clinical-Stage Platform Technology to Develop Antibody-Drug Conjugates (ADCs) with Optimal Therapeutic Index.BigHat Biosciences will combine Synaffix technology with its world-class ML antibody design platform to develop new ADC pipeline programs.According to the terms of the agreement, BigHat will gain access to Synfache's late clinical-stage site-specific ADC technology platform for a specific target, which can convert antibodies into proprietary best-in-class ADC products.
Following Lonza’s acquisition of Synfache in June 2023, BigHat will also gain access to Lonza's end-to-end ADC offering. This DNA-to-IND offering enables drug developers to seamlessly receive all required cGMP/non-cGMP ADC batches for first-in-human clinical trials under a single quality system that encompasses all critical development and manufacturing activities, including antibody production, bioconjugation, and drug product fill. BigHat’s AI/ML-powered antibody design platform, Milliner™, integrates synthetic biology-driven high-speed wet labs with state-of-the-art ML technology into a full-stack antibody discovery and engineering platform to design antibodies with more complex functionalities and improved biophysical properties. This approach reduces the difficulty of designing antibodies and other therapeutic proteins to address everything from chronic conditions to life-threatening diseases, while also significantly accelerating the discovery and validation of candidates. The collaboration with Synfache/Lonza supports the advancement of BigHat Biosciences' next-generation ADC program, which is in the IND-enabling stage.
