Intelligent Finance News learned from informed sources that Novo Nordisk (NVO.US) has signed a contract with Swiss medical device manufacturer Ypsomed. Ypsomed will provide injection pens for Novo Nordisk's next-generation obesity treatment drug, CagriSema. The report demonstrates the company’s long-term commercial plan for its once-weekly injection, which is currently in late-stage clinical development and is expected to generate Phase 3 data this year.

CagriSema combines semaglutide with a compound mimicking the metabolic hormone amylin. Semaglutide is the active ingredient in Novo Nordisk's popular weight-loss therapy, Wegovy. Novo Nordisk aims to achieve an average weight loss of 25% within one year, compared to 15% and 20% respectively for its competitor Eli Lilly's (LLY.US) weight-loss therapy, Zepbound.

Last year, Ypsomed signed a long-term agreement to supply Novo Nordisk with autoinjectors designed for self-administration treatments for various metabolic diseases.
