To turn this idea into reality,Viswa Colluru wants to start a company that uses large-scale metabolomics and artificial intelligence to significantly accelerate the discovery process of natural products.
In just four years, Enveda, the company that was once overlooked by everyone, has now built a platform characterizing the structure and function of more than one million natural products and accumulated a vast database of known natural products. To date, this database contains information on 38,000 medicinal plants, associated with approximately 12,000 different diseases and symptoms. Relying on this platform, Enveda's drug development team can fully leverage the wisdom of natural chemistry refined over billions of years of evolution to achieve large-scale application across all stages of drug discovery. Compared with traditional methods, it can more quickly uncover novel mechanisms of action and develop differentiated drugs.

In October this year,EnvedaENV-294, an investigational therapy, has received IND approval from the U.S. FDA. ENV-294 is a potential “first-in-class” oral anti-inflammatory drug designed to treat atopic dermatitis and other inflammation-related diseases. At the end of October, ENV-294 successfully entered Phase 1 clinical trials, marking its official debut as the first candidate drug from the Enveda platform to reach the clinical stage. There are also 10 candidate development programs and multiple discovery projects, covering immune and inflammatory conditions, obesity, fibrosis, and neurosensory indications, with both “first-in-class” and “best-in-class” potential.
