Radiopharmaceuticals and Diagnostic Reagents R&D Manufacturer
GE Healthcare (GEHC.US) Agrees to Acquire Remaining 50% Stake in Nihon Medi-Physics (NMP) from Sumitomo Chemical
With this development, GE HealthCare plans to strengthen its radiopharmaceutical expertise for imaging procedures used in the detection and diagnosis of various diseases. NMP's portfolio includes GE HealthCare radiopharmaceuticals for clinical imaging in neurology, cardiology, and oncology procedures. NMP generated approximately $183 million in revenue in 2023. It has 13 production facilities and also focuses on research and development, including non-clinical and clinical development of radiotracers as well as theranostics research.
This move will strengthen GE HealthCare's pharmaceutical diagnostics division and increase patient access to next-generation radiopharmaceuticals in the Japanese and Asian markets. Since acquiring 50% of NMP shares through the purchase of Amersham plc in 2004, GE HealthCare has held three seats on its board.
