Recently, Sanofi will invest approximately 1 billion euros to build a new insulin production base in Yizhuang, Beijing. This will be Sanofi's fourth production and supply base in China and will set a record for the company’s largest single investment in the country. The newly established insulin production base will mainly produce active pharmaceutical ingredients for insulin biologics, supplying biological materials for the existing insulin formulation products at Sanofi's Beijing factory.
Sanofi stated that it firmly believes in the long-term development of the Chinese market. China's policies of opening up and encouraging innovation, as well as the favorable business environment created for foreign enterprises, have given Sanofi great confidence to deeply participate in China's economic development and contribute to the high-quality growth of the pharmaceutical industry.
It is reported that, in addition to Sanofi, several multinational pharmaceutical companies have also chosen to expand their presence in China this year.
In October this year, Eli Lilly announced that it would invest approximately 1.5 billion yuan to upgrade the production capacity of its Suzhou plant, expanding the production scale of innovative drugs for type 2 diabetes and obesity. Eli Lilly stated that this is an important part of its significant global capacity upgrade plan. This investment is expected to create about 120 high-quality jobs. After the expansion, the Suzhou plant will meet the dual needs of exporting to the European market and supplying drugs domestically in China. With this additional investment in the new project, Eli Lilly's total planned investment in Suzhou has approached nearly 15 billion yuan.
In October, Eli Lilly also announced the establishment of the China Medical Innovation Center in Beijing and plans to set up the Lilly Innovation Incubator (Lilly Gateway Labs, LGL) to promote clinical research and accelerate the drug development process. According to reports, the Eli Lilly China Medical Innovation Center located in Beijing is a cutting-edge research center focused on improving the efficiency of clinical trials, supporting drug registration and review, with the aim of accelerating the availability of innovative drugs for patients.
Medtronic has also deeply integrated into the Chinese market and has established a full value chain layout in China covering R&D, production, sales, training, after-sales service, and investment funds. It is reported that Medtronic will also set up its first digital service innovation base in China, dedicated to developing treatment solutions for cardiovascular diseases based on artificial intelligence and big data.
Bayer has been rooted in Beijing's Yizhuang for 29 years, with an output value of over 10 billion yuan for 12 consecutive years. It is reported that it will establish the first open innovation center in China in Beijing's Yizhuang, building a concept verification platform and a clinical trial information data operation platform to continuously introduce innovative drugs in the fields of cardiovascular diseases and cancer, and to promote innovative solutions in the areas of women's health and ophthalmic diseases.
Moreover, Pfizer, Danaher, and HUYABIO International have respectively established R&D centers, innovation centers, and China headquarters in Beijing to conduct international multicenter clinical trials and promote the global synchronization of clinical trials.
