【Pharmaceutical Network | Industry Trends] Since 2026, M&A activity in the pharmaceutical industry has indeed been highly active. According to incomplete statistics, more than 200 mergers and acquisitions in the global biopharmaceutical sector were completed in the first half of the year alone, with a total transaction value exceeding $100 billion. Notably, the focus of pharmaceutical acquisitions is clearly shifting toward early-stage technology platforms and high-certainty preclinical assets.
On July 6, Novartis announced that it had reached an agreement to acquire Myricx Bio for an upfront payment of $1.1 billion, plus potential milestone payments of up to $400 million. The transaction is expected to close in the second half of 2026.
Myricx Bio focuses on developing antibody-drug conjugates (ADCs) utilizing N-myristoyltransferase inhibitor payloads. Currently, the company has disclosed four ADC candidates, including MYX2449 (HER2 ADC), MYX2470 (B7-H3 ADC), ADCT-242 (CLDN6 ADC), and MYX2468 (TROP2 ADC). Through this acquisition, Novartis aims to strengthen its R&D pipeline and expand its business footprint.
On July 2, United Therapeutics announced the acquisition of Thymmune Therapeutics for $300 million. Reportedly, Thymmune is a preclinical-stage biotechnology company developing scalable regenerative thymic cell therapies for the treatment of post-transplant organ tolerance, immunodeficiency, and autoimmune diseases. Its core pipeline candidate, THY-100, is in the preclinical development stage for congenital athymia; animal studies have confirmed its efficacy, with potential for future expansion into multiple applications within the field of thymic regenerative medicine.
United Therapeutics is a U.S. biopharmaceutical company focused on pulmonary arterial hypertension (PAH), idiopathic pulmonary fibrosis (IPF), and regenerative medicine for organ transplantation. The acquisition of Thymmune aligns closely with the company’s existing strategy.
On July 1, Zhongfu Technology issued an announcement stating that its wholly-owned subsidiary, Zhongfu Zhengyuan, intends to acquire an 87% equity stake in United-Power Pharma Tech Co., LTD for a consideration of RMB 1 billion. United-Power Pharma Tech has established a comprehensive bioanalytical technology platform covering gene and cell therapy, proteins/peptides, monoclonal antibodies and multispecific antibodies, ADCs/PDCs, nucleic acid-based therapeutics, vaccines, and small-molecule drugs.
Zhongfu Technology stated that the innovative drugs and medical devices sector, along with the CXO track, constitutes the core direction of the company’s strategic transformation. Upon completion of the transaction, the target company will facilitate the implementation of the Company’s CRO business, foster a second growth curve, and enhance the Company’s long-term comprehensive competitiveness.
On June 8, Johnson & Johnson issued a statement announcing that it had reached a definitive agreement to acquire biotechnology company Firefly Bio for $1 billion in cash, thereby gaining access to its proprietary Firelink™ Degrader Antibody Conjugate (DAC) platform.
DAC is a novel class of conjugated drugs situated at the intersection of antibody-drug conjugates (ADCs) and targeted protein degradation (TPD) technology. To date, no DAC drugs have been approved for marketing globally, and Firefly Bio currently has no updates to its pipeline.

Industry analysts believe that against the backdrop of a sharp surge in global biopharmaceutical M&A activity, companies possessing platform technologies, early-stage pipelines, and preclinical CRO services are expected to be increasingly favored.
