Thymmune CoreDevelopment of Scalable Regenerative Thymocyte Therapy for Potential Treatment of Post-Transplant Organ Immune Tolerance, Immunodeficiency Diseases, and Autoimmune Diseases。
The thymus is a core organ of the immune system, orchestrating the development and maintenance of normal function of key immune components, including T cell education. T cells are the central effector cells in the body’s defense against infections and various diseases. Thymmune possesses proprietary technology that enables the directed differentiation of human induced pluripotent stem cells (iPSCs) into thymic progenitor cells; upon infusion into the body, these cells further differentiate and mature, thereby restoring normal T cell function.
Thymmune’s Core Pipeline Candidate DrugsTHY-100 is in the preclinical development stage, indicated for congenital athymia—a ultra-rare, fatal congenital disorder in which affected neonates are born without a functional thymus. Animal studies have confirmed that administration of THY-100 enables in situ neo-thymus formation, supporting normal T-cell development. Upon completion of clinical proof-of-concept and advancement to subsequent development stages, THY-100 is expected to expand the applications of thymic regenerative medicine, covering transplant immune tolerance, severe immune-mediated diseases, as well as improving age-related decline in T-cell function and extending healthspan.
Dr. Martine Rothblatt, Chair and Chief Executive Officer of United Therapeutics, stated: “Thymmune’s technology platform aligns closely with United Therapeutics’ core strategic vision to expand the supply of transplantable organs, serving as a robust complement to the Company’s UThymoKidney™ clinical pipeline and its growing immunomodulatory therapeutics business segment. By leveraging Thymmune’s technology to reshape and modulate T-cell receptor diversity, we anticipate achieving fundamental breakthroughs in human health, potentially addressing the root causes of dozens of fatal diseases.”
Founder and CEO of Thymmune Therapeutics Stan Wang The founder stated, “Thymmune was established with the aim of exploring thymic biological mechanisms to restore immune function in patients with severe immune-mediated diseases. United Therapeutics shares our vision and firmly believes that regenerative medicine can fundamentally transform patient outcomes. With its industry-leading expertise in organ replacement solutions and cell therapy technologies, United Therapeutics is the optimal partner for advancing this technology platform and realizing its broad clinical value.”
Pursuant to the terms of this acquisition agreement, United Therapeutics hasAcquisition of Thymmune for $140 million in cash (transaction consideration subject to adjustment based on specific post-closing matters); furthermore, if specified clinical and regulatory milestones are achieved by the end of 2031, the former shareholders of Thymmune may receive up to a total of $160 million in milestone payments.
