Jiudian Pharmaceutical Obtains Drug Registration Certificates for Cilnidipine Tablets and Ambroxol and Clenbuterol Oral Solution

Jiudian Pharmaceutical has cleared a regulatory hurdle that matters as much for what it signals as for the drugs themselves.

The Shenzhen-listed drugmaker (300705.SZ) said on July 1 that it received drug registration certificates from China's National Medical Products Administration for two products: cilnidipine tablets and an ambroxol-and-clenbuterol oral solution.

The real headline is the cilnidipine tablets, a 10-milligram hypertension treatment. Jiudian is now the first company in China to pass—or be deemed to have passed—the country's consistency evaluation for generic drug quality and efficacy, according to the company's filing. Only four companies in total hold registration certificates for the drug in China.

That distinction matters. China's consistency evaluation is the regulatory gate that determines whether a generic can compete on equal footing with originator drugs in hospital procurement. Passing it first gives Jiudian a meaningful edge in bidding for government-backed pharmaceutical contracts.

A respiratory play

The second certificate covers a 100-milliliter oral solution combining ambroxol and clenbuterol. The drug targets acute and chronic respiratory conditions—bronchitis, emphysema and related ailments—where patients struggle with coughing, thick phlegm, difficult expectoration and wheezing.

Respiratory therapies remain one of China's highest-volume pharmaceutical categories, driven by an aging population, high smoking rates and, in industrial cities, persistent air-quality concerns.

For Jiudian, the dual approvals mark a step up in its product portfolio—and a chance to sharpen its competitive position in two of China's most crowded therapeutic areas.

The question now is whether the company can convert regulatory wins into market share. With only three other cilnidipine competitors holding certificates, the hypertension drug offers the clearest path to differentiated revenue. The respiratory solution faces a far deeper field.

Either way, Jiudian just got two more shots on goal.
