International Epilepsy Care Day
International Epilepsy Day

June 28,We WelcomeThe 20th International Epilepsy Care Day. This year’s official theme focuses on “Caring for Epilepsy-Associated Rare Diseases,” calling on society to pay greater attention to the epilepsy patient community and their long-term diagnosis and treatment needs.
Epilepsy is one of the most common neurological disorders worldwide and a key chronic brain disease targeted for prevention and control in China. There are currently approximately 9 million people with epilepsy in China, with about 400,000 new cases each year. Epilepsy can occur at any age. Long-term recurrent seizures not only affect patients’ cognitive, psychological, and social functioning but also impose a sustained burden on families and society.

Clinical studies have shown that approximately 70% of patients can achieve good control with standardized pharmacological treatment, butstill nearly 30%patients who develop drug-resistant epilepsyFor these patients, precise localization of the epileptogenic zone and implementation of individualized interventions are critical pathways to improving prognosis and quality of life. However, due to factors such as the complexity of lesion localization, uneven distribution of high-quality medical resources, and limited accessibility to precision diagnostic and therapeutic technologies, drug-resistant epilepsy remains a significant challenge in the field of neuroscience.
With the advancement of brain science and brain-computer interface technologies, the diagnosis and treatment of brain diseases in China are accelerating toward precision, minimally invasive procedures, and intelligent solutions. GenLightFocusing on the industrialization of cutting-edge technologies in brain science and neurosurgery,Coverage Construction“Precision Targeting, Minimally Invasive Therapy, Neuromodulation”End-to-End Integrated Solutions to Enhance the Diagnosis and Treatment of Drug-Resistant Epilepsy

Precise localization of the epileptogenic zone and epileptogenic network is a critical foundation for successful surgical treatment of complex, drug-resistant epilepsy.
To address clinical challenges such as the difficulty in preoperative localization and the lengthy assessment cycle for complex cases, GenLight Neurotech has independently developedS-Deep™ Intracranial Depth Electrodes, by acquiring high-quality electroencephalographic (EEG) signals through minimally invasive implantation, it provides support for clinical epileptogenic zone localization, functional brain area assessment, and surgical decision-making, thereby enhancing the precision of preoperative evaluation for complex cases.

Based on precise preoperative assessment, for patients meeting the indications, the company’s independently developedLaserRO™ MRI-Guided Semiconductor Laser Therapy SystemPerform precise minimally invasive ablation of the target lesion guided by intraoperative magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) real-time monitoring.

Compared with traditional craniotomy, this technique is minimally invasive and allows for faster recovery, providing a minimally invasive treatment option for patients with drug-resistant epilepsy while preserving normal brain tissue and critical functional structures as much as possible.

For patients with lesions located in critical functional areas, where safe resection is not feasible or ablation therapy is unsuitable, the company has developed, based on brain-computer interface technology,Epilcure™ Implantable Neurostimulation System, by implanting electrodes into the patient's skull to continuously monitor brain electrical activity.
When abnormal EEG signals that may trigger seizures are detected, the Epilcure™ system automatically initiates a stimulation program to intervene in the abnormal electrical activity, thereby effectively reducing or alleviating seizures and providing reliable safety assurance for patients.

Amid the continuous improvement of China’s standardized prevention and treatment system for epilepsy, GenLight Neurotech remains committed to addressing critical clinical needs and upholding the principle of technology for social good. By leveraging its fully self-developed, end-to-end technologies, the company is tackling diagnostic and therapeutic challenges in drug-resistant epilepsy, thereby enhancing the accessibility of precision diagnosis and treatment for brain disorders in China.
(Note: The Epilcure™ implantable neurostimulation system for epilepsy has entered the Special Review Procedure for Innovative Medical Devices in China, but has not yet been approved for market launch.)
