In recent years, with the increasingly widespread clinical application of radial shockwave and piezoelectric focused shockwave technologies in China, shockwave therapy has evolved from a physical treatment modality into a distinct medical discipline, gaining growing recognition and endorsement among practitioners. Internationally, Extracorporeal Shock Wave Therapy (ESWT) is undergoing a clear paradigm shift: it is no longer regarded merely as a “physical stimulation method,” but is being redefined as a non-invasive biological regulation technology.

As one of the earliest brands in China to independently develop radial shockwave therapy devices, and the first brand in China to independently develop piezoelectric shockwave therapy devices, Sunnyou Medical, according to statistics from multiple platforms including Bidi Bidding Network, Qianlima Medical Device Marketing Cloud, and Zhongcheng Shuke Medical Device Cloud Bid Information MDBIDS,Sunnyou Medical’s shockwave therapy sales have ranked first in the industry for consecutive years.

Recently, Sunnyou's piezoelectric shockwave therapy device was installed at Hunan Provincial People's Hospital and has received widespread clinical recognition. As a renowned Grade-A tertiary hospital in China, Hunan Provincial People's Hospital has chosen Sunnyou’s piezoelectric shockwave therapy system, fully demonstrating its high recognition of the cutting-edge nature of piezoelectric shockwave technology, the high performance of the product, and the brand’s influence.

Hunan Provincial People's Hospital

Hunan Provincial People’s Hospital (The First Affiliated Hospital of Hunan Normal University) is a Grade A tertiary general hospital directly under the Hunan Provincial Health Commission, integrating medical care, education, and research. Founded in 1912 by Dr. Yan Fuqing, the father of modern medicine in China and founder of the Chinese Medical Association, the hospital partnered with Hunan Normal University in 2006 to become its First Affiliated Hospital. The Clinical Medical College of Hunan Normal University was established in 2014. In 2016, through merger and reorganization with the former Hunan Mawangdui Sanatorium, the institution was renamed Hunan Provincial People’s Hospital (The First Affiliated Hospital of Hunan Normal University).

The hospital currently has over 4,200 employees, 3,679 open beds, and 140 clinical and medical technology departments. After more than a century of reform and development, it has formed a management pattern of "one hospital, four campuses" with homogeneous management and differentiated development. The hospital is a comprehensive national regional medical center co-established by the National Health Commission and the provincial government, a national cardiovascular disease regional medical center, and a construction unit for the national geriatric disease regional medical center. It is also a construction unit for the national flagship hospital for integrated traditional Chinese and Western medicine, a demonstration hospital for high-quality development in Hunan Province, and serves as the Hunan Provincial Emergency Center, the Hunan Provincial Emergency Medical Rescue Center, and the National (Hunan) Emergency Medical Rescue Team.

A patient with rotator cuff injury for over four months presented with limited range of motion in shoulder abduction, elevation, and extension, along with exacerbated nocturnal pain that necessitated assistance for undressing. Following two sessions of piezoelectric shockwave therapy, significant improvements were observed in both pain levels and joint mobility.

In recent years in China, radial shockwave therapy and piezoelectric focused shockwave therapy have been successively incorporated into the Guidelines for Extracorporeal Shockwave Therapy for Musculoskeletal Diseases in China (2023 Edition), the Guidelines for Chronic Low Back Pain in China (2024 Edition), and the 2024 Group Standard for the Construction Specifications of Shockwave Therapy Centers. In 2024, these therapies were listed as technologies on the National Health Technology Promotion and Application Information Service Platform released by the National Health Commission. Radial shockwave therapy and piezoelectric focused shockwave therapy each possess distinct application advantages and are both indispensable equipment for shockwave therapy centers in the treatment of musculoskeletal disorders.

Piezoelectric Focused Shockwave: An Advanced Technology Over Traditional Focused Shockwaves (Electromagnetic and Electrohydraulic). Piezoelectric shockwaves offer advantages such as a finer focal spot, stronger targeting capability, enhanced stability, longer service life, and lower maintenance costs, leading to increasing attention and application in clinical practice.
