On June 16, 2026, the WEGO ORTHO Shanghai Innovation Center officially opened. Themed “Scientific Innovation Embarks on a New Journey, Orthopedics Builds the Future,” the event brought together industry-leading experts, academic scholars, and R&D innovation teams to jointly witness this milestone moment for WEGO ORTHO in Shanghai’s science and technology innovation hub. The launch of the center marks WEGO ORTHO’s entry into a new strategic phase in frontier materials, smart orthopedics, digital-intelligent precision medicine, and the implementation of medical-engineering translation.

Opening Ceremony
Industry-University-Research Collaboration
Exploring the Frontiers of Innovation in Orthopedics
At 8:38 a.m., the academic salon kicked off at the Xiushen Lecture Hall of the WEGO Cloud Intelligence Innovation Center. Li Jinqu, General Manager of WEGO ORTHO, and Wu Chunhui, Chief Engineer, delivered opening remarks in succession, extending warm welcomes and heartfelt gratitude to the attending guests. They stated that Shanghai, as a hub gathering top-tier clinical, scientific research, and industrial resources, is a strategic cornerstone for WEGO ORTHO’s layout in high-end R&D and the translation of scientific achievements into practical applications.
The Shanghai Innovation Center will focus on four core objectives: tackling key challenges in novel biomaterials for orthopedics, breaking through barriers in core raw materials, deploying smart implants and digital surgical products, and building a full-chain digital-intelligent R&D platform. It will deepen medical-enterprise collaboration and streamline the pathway for translating research outcomes into applications, thereby driving high-quality corporate development through innovation. In the future, the R&D team will concentrate on three major directions: advancing frontier materials such as biodegradable biomaterials and biomimetic metal composites, prioritizing the development of intelligent implants and digital healthcare products, and establishing an end-to-end translation chain from “clinical ideation” to “scientific R&D” and “industrial commercialization.” With rigorous craftsmanship, the team will propel orthopedic diagnosis and treatment toward greater precision, intelligence, and accessibility.

Academic Salon Event
During the academic salon session, research teams from the Chinese Academy of Sciences, Shanghai Jiao Tong University, and other institutions delivered keynote presentations. They provided in-depth interpretations of the innovative applications of tantalum coating technology in orthopedics; systematically elaborated on intelligent orthopedic implants and precision diagnosis and treatment solutions; explored the pathways for precision orthopedic medicine and industrial translation driven by the integration of medicine and engineering; and shared insights on how AI imaging and digital-intelligence technologies are empowering innovative development in orthopedic diagnosis and treatment. Meanwhile, industry experts from the Shanghai Technology Exchange delivered a special lecture on policies and practical pathways for the translation of scientific and technological achievements in the healthcare sector.
The on-site exchange was vibrant, with a dynamic clash of ideas, providing valuable insights for technological innovation and industrial upgrading in orthopedics.

Address by Chairman Chen Min
Chen Min, Vice President of WEGO Group and Chairman of WEGO ORTHO, pointed out in his concluding remarks that this event was not merely a technical exchange, but also an opportunity to calibrate direction and consolidate strength. He emphasized that, looking to the future, the Shanghai Innovation Center will adhere to three major strategies: First, remain committed to the original aspiration of scientific and technological innovation, anchor itself to the mission of domestic substitution, and take it as its responsibility to break technological monopolies, create high-quality national products, and safeguard the skeletal health of citizens. Second, deepen the integration of industry, academia, and research, build a collaborative innovation ecosystem, and work with universities, research institutes, and clinical institutions to establish an open and shared platform. Third, adhere to a people-oriented approach, attract top-tier talent from both domestic and overseas sources, and establish a hub for orthopedic talent and a stronghold for technological breakthroughs.
WEGO ORTHO will leverage its Shanghai Innovation Center as a starting point to continuously break through technological bottlenecks, empower medical upgrades, and promote win-win outcomes across the industry, striving to write a new chapter for China’s national orthopedic medical brand.
