On September 9, 2023, the Symposium on Type 2 Diabetes Reversal and the Unveiling Ceremony of Tangyi Bangbang were successfully held in Hangzhou. Hosted by Tangyi Bangbang Internet Hospital, the event aimed to bring together industry experts to jointly discuss advancements and prospects in the field of diabetes reversal.
The conference invited experts from various fields, including medicine, food science, and investment. Distinguished attendees included Professor Guo Xiaohui from the Department of Endocrinology at Peking University First Hospital; Professor Yang Nailong from the Department of Endocrinology at the Affiliated Hospital of Qingdao University; Professor Qian Haifeng from the School of Food Science and Technology at Jiangnan University; and Director Xu Mingzhi from the Department of Endocrinology and Metabolism at the Cancer Hospital of the University of Chinese Academy of Sciences. In addition, representatives from approximately 70 institutions and media outlets specializing in diabetes care across China also attended the conference.

Mr. Zhu Shuiwang, Founder and CEO of Tangyi Bangbang
At the outset of the conference, Mr. Zhu Shuiwang, Founder and CEO of Tangyi Bangbang, delivered an opening address. He pointed out that there is currently a widespread lack of affordable and effective reversal solutions for patients with type 2 diabetes on the market, forcing patients to face multiple complications and an increased risk of cardiovascular disease in the later stages of the disease. Tangyi Bangbang’s mission is to change this status quo. As an internet hospital dedicated to reversing type 2 diabetes, it aims to help 5 million patients reverse their diabetes and achieve a medication-free life by 2035, becoming China’s most trusted provider of non-pharmacological diabetes management solutions.
Subsequently, Professor Guo Xiaohui, Professor Yang Nailong, Professor Qian Haifeng, Mr. Lin Jianguo, and Mr. Liu Zehui jointly unveiled the plaque for the Tangyi Bangbang Internet Hospital for Type 2 Diabetes Reversal. At the same time, the Tangyi Bangbang Reversal Expert Team was officially established, with Professor Guo Xiaohui serving as Chief Reversal Expert, Professor Yang Nailong as Clinical Reversal Expert, Dr. Xu Mingzhi as Clinical Reversal Expert, and Professor Qian Haifeng as Chief R&D Expert. The completion of the unveiling ceremony and the appointment letter awarding ceremony marked the official launch of this innovative medical institution, taking a critical first step toward its goal of helping five million patients with type 2 diabetes achieve disease reversal.

In the past, type 2 diabetes was considered a “chronic cancer” that lasted a lifetime. However, clinical achievements in recent years have continuously confirmed that type 2 diabetes is preventable, treatable, and reversible. At the conference, Professor Guo Xiaohui interpreted the Chinese Expert Consensus on Remission of Type 2 Diabetes issued in 2021. As a member of the expert committee for this consensus, she provided an in-depth explanation of the specific definitions and criteria for remission of type 2 diabetes, while also sharing the latest research and concepts regarding diabetes reversal both domestically and internationally.

Professor Guo Xiaohui, Department of Endocrinology, Peking University First Hospital
As one of the earliest physicians in China to engage in clinical reversal, Professor Yang Nailong shared advances in the clinical practice of type 2 diabetes reversal. From elucidating the pathogenesis of diabetes to presenting his own clinical research findings, he emphasized that we should respect the body rather than attempt to remodel it. Patients with type 2 diabetes do not require enhancement or alteration of physiological functions (such as stimulating greater insulin production); rather, they need to adopt and modify their dietary patterns.
Professor Qian Haifeng from the School of Food Science and Technology at Jiangnan University shared insights on the role of diet in the remission of type 2 diabetes. He noted that type 2 diabetes is a metabolic disorder driven by dietary habits. Experimental studies conducted at Jiangnan University, along with domestic and international research papers, have consistently shown that adhering to a low-carbohydrate, high-dietary-fiber diet significantly improves key clinical indicators—such as glycated hemoglobin (HbA1c), postprandial blood glucose, and body weight—compared with conventional diets.
In the subsequent roundtable discussion, Chief Diabetes Reversal Expert Guo Xiaohui, Clinical Experts Yang Nailong and Xu Mingzhi, Chief R&D Expert Qian Haifeng, Liu Zehui, Founding Partner of Xingtuo Capital, and Zhu Shuiwang, Founder and CEO of Tangyi Bangbang, jointly focused on the critical topic of diabetes reversal, exploring current challenges and solutions.

Professor Guo Xiaohui, Professor Yang Nailong, and Director Xu Mingzhi believe that the three main challenges currently facing the reversal of type 2 diabetes are inadequate public health education, insufficient indicator monitoring, and poor patient adherence. Professor Yang Nailong emphasized that a low-carbohydrate diet is an art of respecting the body, and lifestyle changes are a crucial component of non-pharmacological treatment. Professor Qian Haifeng stated that with the continuous advancement of food research and development capabilities, the food industry will provide diabetic patients with more delicious, effective, and convenient product support in the future. Mr. Liu Zehui discussed the business opportunities in the field of non-pharmacological treatment from an investor’s perspective, believing that improving the lives of diabetic patients through innovative technologies will become the mainstream trend in the future. Mr. Zhu Shuiwang introduced the advantages of the Tangyi Bangbang reversal program, emphasizing that the integration of food, technology, and healthcare holds immense potential for non-pharmacological treatment, laying the foundation for providing patients with more convenient and effective solutions.
Finally, Liu Feng, founder of Tangdong, and Zhu Shuiwang, founder and CEO of Tangyi Bangbang, signed a strategic cooperation agreement. It is reported that Tangyi Bangbang and Tangdong will integrate their respective resources and technologies to jointly develop a full-course disease management system. By leveraging intelligent technologies, the system will enable comprehensive disease management, featuring functions such as blood glucose monitoring, personalized treatment plans, and early warning alerts, thereby providing more convenient and visualized digital management tools for patients with type 2 diabetes.

In August this year, the General Office of the National Health Commission issued the “Measures for Convenient and Beneficial Primary Healthcare Services,” which proposes that for patients newly diagnosed with or living with type 2 diabetes, the frequency of prescription refills should be reduced, and non-pharmacological recommendations—such as dietary and nutritional guidance—should be provided. Compared with conventional pharmacological therapy, the importance of non-pharmacological interventions in diabetes management is increasingly prominent.
Attendees stated that supportive medical policies, strategic industry collaborations, and cross-sector integration can effectively enhance the awareness and acceptance of type 2 diabetes reversal and non-pharmacological treatments among patients with diabetes in China. They expressed hope that Tangyi Bangbang will realize its vision in the future, helping 5 million patients with type 2 diabetes reverse their condition and achieve a medication-free life.
