Recently, Vdk Nutrition Biotech Co., Ltd. (“Vdk Nutrition”) completed a Series A financing round of nearly RMB 100 million. The round was led by ADDOR Capital, with follow-on investment from CPEC Huachuang Private Equity (Kunshan) Co., Ltd. The proceeds will be used to support Vdk Nutrition’s continuous innovation in its technology platform for natural product biosynthesis, the advancement and commercialization of its pipeline, and global business expansion.

Vdk Nutrition Biotech Co., Ltd. is a high-tech enterprise located in Baoding City, Hebei Province, specializing in the research and development, production, and sales of products for the biological health industry. The company’s core business focuses on the biomanufacturing of natural products, leveraging synthetic biology technologies to produce valuable bioactive natural compounds through microbial cell factories. As a global pioneer in the industrialization of biosynthetic natural products, the company achieved the world’s first large-scale biomanufacturing of natural products such as 5-hydroxytryptophan, melatonin, resveratrol, and sclareol.

Synthetic biology technology centers on the artificial design and writing of genomes, adopting an engineering mindset to rationally design and modify organisms. It constructs microbial cell factories to produce high-value natural products, thereby breaking free from the constraints of traditional plant extraction methods that deplete natural resources and damage the ecological environment. As a new generation of disruptive green biomanufacturing technology, it is environmentally friendly and ecologically sustainable. Currently, Vdk Nutrition Biotech Co., Ltd. has established four major technological platforms: metabolic pathway design and construction; directed enzyme evolution and high-throughput screening; cell factory construction and metabolic flux regulation; and optimization, scale-up, and purification process development for fermentation and separation. These platforms enable efficient development and iteration of biosynthesis technologies. The company’s product portfolio spans three sectors: health and nutritional supplements, natural pigments, and flavors and fragrances. Four products have already achieved industrial-scale production, with all ranking among the top three global raw material suppliers; notably, the company is the world’s largest supplier of 5-HTP and resveratrol. Additionally, pilot-scale production has been completed for three new products awaiting industrialization, while a broader pipeline of products is under research and development.

ADDOR’s investment team stated:Vdk Nutrition Biotech Co., Ltd. is a key strategic investment and partner of ADDOR in the field of synthetic biology for natural products. Biosynthesis of natural products serves as an excellent alternative to traditional methods such as plant extraction, enhancing supply stability, reducing the cost of expensive natural ingredients, and aligning with the principles of green manufacturing and ESG development. Leveraging years of dedicated research by internal and external scientists, along with the high execution and implementation capabilities of its overall operational team, Vdk has pioneered the domestic industrial production of multiple natural products via biosynthetic methods. ADDOR remains firmly optimistic about Vdk’s long-term development and looks forward to seeing the company leverage capital market resources and its technological advantages to continuously advance the R&D and production of biosynthetic products, ensuring steady and sustainable progress on the path toward the industrialization of natural product biosynthesis.

The Huachuang ADDOR Investment Team stated:Vdk Nutrition Biotech has achieved large-scale production of natural products through synthetic biology, establishing a complete commercial loop encompassing basic R&D, pilot-scale amplification, commercial manufacturing, and market sales. Meanwhile, the company has built an outstanding team with practical experience spanning product selection and project initiation, R&D implementation, and industrialized production. We are highly optimistic about the application prospects of synthetic biology technology and the company’s pipeline layout. We hope that Vdk Nutrition Biotech will achieve rapid development in the field of green biomanufacturing, remain market-demand oriented, continuously realize the development and commercialization of new products, further consolidate and expand its global market presence, set industry benchmarks, and become a stable and reliable partner for downstream customers of natural products worldwide.
