Diabetes has long posed a severe challenge to humanity. According to VCBeat, the estimated prevalence of diabetes among Chinese adults aged 18 and above is 11.6%, affecting approximately 114 million people, half of whom are unaware of their condition. This vast niche market has attracted the attention of countless entrepreneurs and investors, yet competition remains fierce amid limited opportunities. VCBeat previously published an articleDiabetes App Analysis, there are currently nearly 100 apps available in China, and the blood glucose meter market is dominated by several major foreign brands. Moreover, in early January 2015, the internet giant Tencent high-profilely launched its “Tang Dafu” blood glucose meter. So, how much market share is left to be claimed in this sector?

With no gaps remaining in this market, diabetes management expert Tang Hushi recently provided an answer. Last November, the company secured tens of millions of RMB in Series A financing from SAIF Partners Asia and Sinovation Ventures. It also announced that its second-generation product, “Tang Hushi·Xing,” has completed R&D and trial production. The product will launch a crowdfunding campaign on JD.com on Valentine’s Day, February 14, with mass production expected to begin after the Spring Festival.

Compared to the first generation, Sugar Nurse·Xing integrates the original Sugar Nurse mobile blood glucose meter with the “Xing” module. It automatically transmits blood glucose test results to the cloud via the GPRS network, catering to users who are unfamiliar with smartphones and apps while also safeguarding user privacy. Family members and health management platforms can remotely monitor the user’s blood glucose testing data and remotely configure test schedules, reminders, and voice messages. This unique design extends the applicable age range of Sugar Nurse users up to 80 years old.

Additionally, the standalone "Xing" can also function as a pedometer, automatically recording and transmitting activity data.

According to VCBeat, Tanghu Technology will also launch the first “open-source glucometer,” fully opening the interface technology of its Tanghushi mobile glucometer and “Xing” platform to partners. This initiative aims to help mobile health enterprises, such as mobile app developers and health management platforms, rapidly deploy their own smart glucometers while leveraging their existing apps.
