Not long ago, Accenture released a report on consumer smart device experiences, titledEngaging the Digital Consumer in the New Connected World,The scope of the report also covers smart hardware in the healthcare sector. VCBeat has observed that Accenture’s survey findings and stance appear to be less than optimistic.
Consumer Acceptance of Smart Devices Remains Low
While innovators and early adopters have shown great interest in the diverse array of smart hardware currently available, its appeal remains limited for the average consumer. For instance, only 6% of individuals currently own wearable health devices; 9% of consumers may purchase such devices within the next year, and over a five-year horizon, up to 39% of the general population is expected to buy these products.
Current Smart Hardware User Experience Is Less Than Satisfactory
Consumers have expressed various views regarding negative perceptions and poor experiences with smart hardware, with the most significant concern being that these devices remain overly complex and difficult to use. Eighty-three percent of consumers have encountered varying degrees of usability barriers when using smart devices, while 33% consider ease of use a key factor when selecting smart devices.

Sharing Data Is Not Easy
Although many smart hardware developers aim to acquire personal data and extract value from it, consumers’ willingness to share data remains low. Forty-four percent of consumers are concerned about whether their personal data is secure and under their control, while 10% never share their data due to privacy and security concerns.
Accenture believes that we do not yet have products that elicit strong consumer excitement. If smart hardware developers fail to fundamentally enhance the consumer experience, it will be difficult to expect consumers to have sufficient willingness to purchase these products.(To stay updated on the latest information about internet healthcare startups, please follow VCBeat’s WeChat official account: vcbeat.
