Chai Jing’s self-funded documentary, “Under the Dome,” has once again brought air pollution into the spotlight. In fact, the worsening problem of air pollution is not limited to developing countries like China; in many developed nations, air quality is also under threat due to various factors such as industrial emissions, urbanization, and vehicle exhaust.
For instance, in Los Angeles, United States, the cancer risk during periods of the worst air quality exceeded federal standards by more than 20-fold; in France, pollution once caused 75% of the country’s regions to surpass regulated air pollution limits. It is important to note that these figures are not the result of any artificial manipulation.
With air pollution so severe, music and chocolate are clearly no longer suitable companions, and household air purifiers are certainly not portable. The world still awaits my salvation—does this mean I can’t even step outside?! No! At times like these, you need a wearable air purifier!
VCBeat previously reported that a Chinese startup team, “Feng Xiaoliu,” had developed a head-mounted air purification device (Click here for details). Now, a startup team based in Tel Aviv, Israel, has also developed a wearable air purifier. However, unlike the head-mounted “Feng Xiaoliu,” this product adopts a neck-worn design.
When we interviewed the “Feng Xiaoliu” team, their product was still in the prototype development stage and had not yet entered mass production. Although Oxie is now touted as the world’s first wearable air purifier, there is currently no further publicly available information about its market launch, such as where it is sold or its pricing. Even its official website features only a few brief pieces of information and the aforementioned video.
The project was recently selected for TechStars, Sprint’s healthcare technology incubator (Click here for details.). This air purifier is designed to be extremely lightweight, eliminating the need to cover the user’s face. According to the company’s official website, you can even hide Oxie beneath your collar! This ensures both aesthetic appeal and comfort while delivering clean air. Oxie is a compact “neck-worn” air purifier that at first glance resembles a pair of over-ear headphones. Sarah Tulin, Founder and CEO of Oxie, stated, “When heading out into poor air quality, people no longer need to rely on masks, which are neither comfortable nor aesthetically pleasing. We should provide effective, comfortable, and attractive products for everyone’s health.”
The company stated that Oxie delivers excellent purification performance, effectively filtering out smoke, dust, bacteria, and other harmful gases. Additionally, Oxie is equipped with sensors that monitor the air quality surrounding the wearer and synchronize the data to a mobile app, other smart devices, and the cloud. This enables users to stay informed about their ambient air quality in real time, while the collected monitoring data can also be utilized for scientific research.
