Guangzhou and Shenzhen have become major hubs in China’s smart hardware market. Following its series of interviews with internet healthcare companies in western China, VCBeat has officially launched its coverage of startups in the Pearl River Delta region. In the previous issue, we featured “tosee: A New-Era Smoking Cessation Device.” This issue highlights the iQianGua smartwatch, which focuses on elderly health monitoring. China faces a severe aging population crisis. According to the first blue book on aging development, the "Report on China's Aging Development (2013)," released by the National Working Commission on Aging, the elderly population in China reached 202 million in 2013. Particularly under the current "4-2-1" family structure, many seniors live independently, with their children unable to provide long-term companionship. The physical health and daily living conditions of this vast demographic have drawn widespread attention from all sectors of society.
Among VCBeat’s community members, there are also many smart hardware products designed for the elderly. The “Ai Qiangua” smartwatch for seniors, produced by Guangzhou Boyi Information Technology Co., Ltd., primarily offers features such as fall detection and emergency alerts, chronic disease intervention, and family connectivity. VCBeat conducted an exclusive interview with Mr. Liao Yong, one of the founders of “Ai Qiangua.”
Original Intention for Founding the Startup: We Aim to Do Something Meaningful and Tangible for the Elderly Population
According to Liao Yong, the R&D team members boast an average of over 10 years of extensive professional experience and hold multiple patents with independent intellectual property rights. Since its launch in 2014, their first-generation product, “Ai Qiangua” S1, has amassed over 10,000 users. Currently, their second-generation products, “Ai Qiangua” S2 and S2 Pro, are being crowdfunded on the JD.com platform.
When discussing the original intention behind creating the “Ai Qiangua” smart wristband for the elderly, Liao Yong told VCBeat that, first, Mr. Chen Zhen, another founder of the company, had previously served as the executive director of China’s largest single-entity home-based elderly care service provider. His work during that period made him realize that the elderly are a group deserving of our attention, and that doing something for them would be highly meaningful. Second, with wearable device technology becoming increasingly sophisticated, leveraging technology and intelligent solutions to reduce the labor costs associated with home-based elderly care also holds broad market prospects. Product Features: More than just a wristwatch, it is a bond of care connecting children and parents. “LoveCare” Smart Watch for the Elderly is a wearable smart device designed specifically for the elderly. It features medical-grade silicone straps, providing the most comfortable and secure wearing experience for seniors.
Liao Yong introduced that the companion app for “Ai Qiangua” has been officially launched on the Apple App Store and Android app markets. Once seniors wear the smartwatch, its built-in Green-Ray photoelectric sensor monitors vital signs by detecting changes in heart rate. Children can open the “Ai Qiangua” app to view the transmitted data and stay informed about their parents’ health status in real time. The app not only reminds seniors to take medication and exercise on schedule, but also performs data assessment and analysis to help identify unhealthy lifestyles and habits.
During the interview, Liao Yong personally demonstrated to a VCBeat reporter the distinctive features of the “Ai Qiangua” smartwatch, with the SOS emergency alert function being the most notable. While demonstrating its operation, Liao explained to the reporter, “This smartwatch is equipped with an SOS emergency button. In an emergency, simply pressing this button will automatically dial pre-set phone numbers. If the call is not answered, it will continue to dial the next contact on the list until the call is connected. The watch’s system currently supports storing up to five emergency contact numbers.”
In light of practical issues that have arisen, Liao Yong and his team have optimized the “Ai Qiangua” smartwatch in many aspects.
First, when children call their elderly parents, no operation is required on the seniors’ part; calls connect directly, enabling children to monitor their parents’ well-being in real time. Second, the smartwatch features an embedded positioning module that utilizes multi-mode positioning technology combining GPS, AGPS, LBS, and Wi-Fi. Integrated with dynamic navigation and multi-point irregular geofencing, this system accurately and rapidly determines the wearer’s location, thereby ensuring their safety.
According to VCBeat, the “Ai Qiangua” smartwatch for the elderly has a battery life of 72 hours and features a pioneering dual-magnetic-pole adsorption charging system, which is relatively convenient.
Future Plan: Develop More Products for the Elderly Based on Big Data The second-generation products, “Ai Qiangua” S2 and S2 Pro, were launched on JD.com’s crowdfunding platform on the significant date of May 20, successfully reaching their fundraising target within just three days.
The substantial increase in users has made it possible for “Ai Qiangua” to leverage big data. According to VCBeat, the “Ai Qiangua” smartwatch for seniors stores users’ physiological parameters in the cloud, forming a big data repository that greatly enhances user convenience. Leveraging this cloud-based data, “Ai Qiangua” provides users with a free health report on a quarterly basis.
Meanwhile, “Ai Qiangua” is evolving into an open platform. Liao Yong told VCBeat that “Ai Qiangua” has established a strategic partnership with Chunyu Doctor, whereby the two parties will share health data to provide data references for online consultation services.
“We want to do something meaningful and practical for the elderly population.” In his conversation with reporters, Liao Yong repeatedly emphasized this statement. VCBeat wishes their product will continue to improve, making greater contributions to the elderly, a group deserving of attention. Meanwhile, we will continue to follow the “Ai Qiangua” team.
