Google Files Prospectus for Study Kit, a Cross-Platform Health Data Collection App

Recently, Google confirmed that it is testing a healthcare application called Study Kit. Developed by Google X and part of the Baseline Study project—a division first disclosed by the media in July 2014—Study Kit will be compatible with Android, iOS, and Chrome extensions. The focus of Study Kit remains on health data. In fact, Google had quietly released this app on Google Play in late March.

Named Study Kit, it is hard not to say that VCBeat’s offering and Apple’s ResearchKit are like two sisters. Notably, Study Kit is compatible with Apple’s iOS, just as ResearchKit has shifted away from Apple’s traditionally closed approach toward greater openness. Recently, in the field of medical data mining, Apple and Google appear increasingly inclined to both compete and collaborate.

Study Kit is currently unavailable for normal registration and use. Rumors suggest that the app may be designed to interface with related hardware for data collection. At present, we have no further information on Study Kit. VCBeat will continue to monitor the project’s progress. Below are several screenshots of the Study Kit interface.
