MedJet Imaging Files for IPO: The 'YouTube + Instagram' of Medical Imaging

Currently, companies in China involved in medical imaging app applications generally have founding teams that fall into two categories: one comprises physicians from traditional hospitals, and the other consists of technical elites originating from pure internet companies. The former has the advantage of possessing physician resources, while the latter places greater emphasis on product design and user experience. Outman combines the strengths of both.

The four founding team members of Outman Imaging hail from Tongren Hospital, Siemens Healthineers, Huawei, Lenovo, and other organizations.

Li Qiang, a co-founder of Yijie Imaging, had a family member diagnosed with a lung tumor three years ago. To minimize the risk of misdiagnosis and identify a more reliable treatment plan, he traveled back and forth to multiple medical institutions, including PLA General Hospital (301) and the Cancer Hospital, seeking expert consultations. Li told VCBeat that this experience of navigating healthcare for his family made him realize that a platform enabling doctors to share and discuss relevant cases, while allowing patients to upload medical imaging records for multi-expert consultation, would benefit more patients and their families.

At that time, there was no medical imaging website on the market with a strong reputation, quality service, and high brand awareness, which presented a prime opportunity for Yijie Imaging.

On June 4, 2014, the Yijie Imaging website launched for internal beta testing. The founding team of Yijie Imaging believes that mobile medical imaging should provide doctors with a high-quality content sharing and communication service across four dimensions: conventional medical images, professional DICOM images, medical videos, and real-time remote video consultations.

Li Qiang stated that Yijie Imaging’s vision is to create a “YouTube + Instagram”-style service in the medical field.

Launched in 2013, Figure 1, known as "Instagram for doctors," enables healthcare professionals—including physicians, nurses, physician assistants, and medical students—to upload images and create individual case files, facilitating discussions on patient conditions and professional exchange with peers and patients worldwide. Statistics show that 150,000 medical experts have established personal diagnostic profiles to share cases and expand their professional knowledge.

Figure 1 After rapidly capturing the global market, countless imitators began to emerge. Medlinker, Yiku, and Yunyi are all making similar attempts.

However, platforms specializing in video sharing, such as YiJie Imaging, remain rare. Unlike other websites offering video-based instruction, YiJie Imaging provides more up-to-date and timely videos, which hold significant clinical reference value. In addition to video sharing, the platform supports online video communication. Leveraging its cloud-based medical imaging database, YiJie Imaging will establish the first search engine dedicated to clinical medical imaging.

Li Guo, Design Director at outman Imaging, believes that as broadband speeds increase and prices drop, people will be more willing to share videos on small screens. “Doctors certainly prefer to see more professional videos and more specialized social platforms.”

The Yijie Imaging team recognized that, in the era of mobile 4G, conventional medical text and image materials were far from sufficient for academic exchange and learning among physicians. By integrating mobile internet technologies with medical imaging processing techniques, and leveraging content formats such as information-rich DICOM medical images, clinical medical videos, real-time P2P remote video consultations, and even medical AR/VR applications on the verge of commercial deployment, a more effective bridge for communication between doctors and between doctors and patients can be established.

At this stage, Yijie Imaging is undergoing angel round financing. The fundraising plan will be used for market promotion, product development, and technological breakthroughs.
