In less than a year, the Yibolai recruitment website has gained the favor of more than 3,000 enterprises. Recently, VCBeat conducted an exclusive interview with Wang Wei, founder and COO of Yibolai, uncovering the story behind this emerging internet recruitment company.

As a recruitment website vertically focused on the pharmaceutical and healthcare sector, Yibolai’s key competitive advantage lies in its precision-based talent matching technology using tagged profiles.

Yibolai categorizes the pharmaceutical and healthcare industry into over 200 specialized job roles, each assigned multiple tags. In addition to candidates’ self-selected tags, Yibolai generates additional tags based on employers’ recruitment requirements, enabling precise two-way matching through shared tags.

Taking pharmaceutical sales representatives as an example, actual tags include “experience with foreign-funded enterprises,” “experience with domestic-funded enterprises,” “experience in departmental meeting presentations,” “Top Sales,” and “medical professional background.” In the future, Yibolai will also launch an automatic resume delivery feature, whereby the system automatically generates tags after users upload their resumes and then delivers them to companies with hiring needs.

Wang Wei, Founder and COO of Yibolai, stated that the original intention behind founding Yibolai was to dismantle the highly asymmetric information barrier between employers and job seekers, and to unite the entire industry for shared growth and progress.

Professional, Precise

Unlike traditional recruitment websites that prioritize employer needs, Yibolai places greater emphasis on the job seeker’s experience.

First, Yibolai’s specialized segmentation enables job seekers to precisely access high-quality positions that match their qualifications; second, in terms of user experience, Yibolai eliminates intrusive full-screen advertisements, providing users with a clean, uncluttered, and user-friendly interface.

The primary revenue stream for traditional recruitment websites is charging employers. They offer employers various packages at different price points, with the cost determining the number of job postings a company can publish and the number of resumes it can download. A drawback of this model is that, in an effort to recoup costs, companies may post positions that are not urgently needed or even publish fictitious job listings solely for self-promotion. Furthermore, while traditional recruitment platforms cater exclusively to employers, Yibolai serves a broader customer base.

YiBoLai allows HR personnel, department managers, and even headhunters to post job openings. As for verification, YiBoLai verifies the authenticity of information through telephone communication and business card recognition.

It is worth noting that Yibolai’s talent pool is not currently open to the public, and companies cannot access it either. “After relevant job seekers’ resumes are posted, Yibolai will precisely match them with suitable companies,” Wang Wei told VCBeat.

Connecting Online and Offline

In fact, as early as April 2013, Huang Guanyu and Wang Wei, co-founders of Yibolai, applied for the WeChat Official Account titled “Pharmaceutical Talent Mutual Recommendation Platform.” At that time, they were still employees of globally renowned foreign pharmaceutical companies, with 10 and 5 years of experience in the pharmaceutical industry, respectively. Thus, they had a deep understanding of the talent demands within the pharmaceutical sector.

“In just about two years, the ‘Pharmaceutical and Medical Talent Mutual Recommendation Platform’ has amassed approximately 200,000 followers. ‘Rapidly building a follower base requires mastering many techniques, such as daily article promotion, devising strategies to ensure our content reaches the target audience, and organizing various engaging offline activities, including down-to-earth events like matchmaking and beauty pageants,’ introduced Wang Wei.”

Now, Yibolai hosts online thematic recruitment salons from the 7th to the 10th of each month to build brand awareness and attract more followers. “Only when more job-seeking users become aware of us will companies have greater incentive to join our platform.”

When it comes to future revenue models, Wang Wei already has a clear answer. “We will implement tiered corporate partnerships: for large enterprises, we aim to achieve the dual objectives of talent acquisition and brand promotion through various channels such as prominent carousel banners on our website, event promotions, and campus recruitment campaigns—this is also the direction for future profitability; for small businesses, the focus will remain primarily on recruitment services.”
