A smartwatch with specialized features was recently launched in Taiwan, China. This device helps reduce the risk of cardiovascular disease by assessing arterial stiffness and heart rate variability, and issuing alerts when necessary.

ArterialScan: Easily Predict Arteriosclerosis Symptoms and Guide a Healthy Lifestyle

Arterial Stiffness (AS) is an inevitable aging process, with the degree of stiffness worsening as age increases. Meanwhile, arteriosclerosis also contributes to numerous cardiovascular diseases.

Currently, arteriosclerosis detection methods typically involve specialized medical personnel using medical devices in hospitals; however, these methods cannot detect the gradual progression of atherosclerosis (AS), which is precisely why ArterialScan exists.

It can detect the stiffness of human blood vessels and compare it with the standard stiffness levels for the corresponding age, thereby generating appropriate risk alerts. According to the ArterialScan team, more than 50% of arterial occlusion cases are asymptomatic; therefore, although arterial stiffness (AS) progresses very slowly, it still poses an extremely high risk.

In addition, it can provide training methods for AS and monitor exercise records.

ArterialScan-AS+HRR+HRV: Triple Protection for Your Health

Working Principle: The core detection component of ArterialScan consists of a near-infrared light emitter and a photodiode. The basic principle for detecting arteriosclerosis is illustrated in the figure below:

If arterial stiffness is high, the reflected light exhibits characteristics of high intensity and fast speed; if the arteries are in a normal state, the reflected light typically has low intensity and slow speed. After the light is detected by a photodiode, ArterialScan calculates the corresponding reception speed and intensity using its proprietary algorithms, thereby estimating the degree of arterial stiffening.

Under medical guidance, exercise of appropriate intensity can enhance cardiopulmonary function. The rate at which heart rate decreases within one minute after exercise cessation is known as Heart Rate Recovery (HRR), a valuable physiological parameter for assessing cardiovascular health. ArterialScan can automatically measure HRR and evaluate corresponding health status based on long-term records, thereby providing guidance for healthy exercise.

ArterialScan can also monitor the body's HRV (Heart Rate Variability) to display physiological stress and reflect health status. Through these parameters, users can better balance their daily activities and promote physical well-being.

ArterialScan—Also Features Standard Smartwatch Functions

According to the ArterialScan official website, the main parameters measured by this product are:
1. Arteriosclerosis
2. Heart Rate Recovery (HRR)
3. Red Light and Vibration Alarm
4. Pulse Intensity
5. Reflected Pulse Intensity
6. Heart Rate
7. Bluetooth 4.0
8. Data Analysis App
9. Time
10. Timing
11. Heart Rate Variability (HRV)
12. Respiratory Rate

According to VCBeat, approximately 9,590 people in China die from cardiovascular and cerebrovascular diseases each day, meaning that roughly one person dies from these conditions every 10 seconds. The emergence of ArterialScan has simplified the detection process for arteriosclerosis, offering greater convenience to patients. Although the data generated by this product cannot yet be used as formal medical information, its guiding significance for daily health maintenance is still noteworthy.

The ArterialScan team also acknowledges that ArterialScan’s testing cannot replace formal medical devices, and patients should take note.
