In October 2014, Changchun Huaxun Information Technology Co., Ltd. (hereinafter referred to as “Changchun Huaxun”) joined forces with Baidu Dulife to jointly launch China’s first home-use ECG monitoring medical device equipped with an intelligent expert analysis system—the Tete ECG Monitor. Since its market debut, sales of the Tete ECG Monitor have approached 10,000 units.
Wang Jianzhong, Vice President of Sales at Changchun Huaxun, stated that Baidu was drawn to the Tete ECG Monitor’s product form factor, application model, and medical-grade quality. He added that the strategic partnership with Baidu Health Cloud would help Tete ECG Monitor expand its market presence.
Tete ECG Monitor
Tete ECG Monitor is a medical-grade smart wearable device that is portable and allows users to perform electrocardiogram (ECG) tests at home. Wang Jianzhong stated that the company developed the Tete ECG Monitor with the aim of bringing medical-grade equipment into ordinary households, thereby providing users with comprehensive heart health management services.
Wang Jianzhong believes that while there is a large population of heart disease patients, there is a lack of corresponding home monitoring tools. Electrocardiogram (ECG) machines are primarily manufactured by traditional ECG device vendors, and their usage is mainly confined to hospitals and professional medical institutions. For the general public, going to a hospital for an ECG test is not only inconvenient but also expensive. Holter monitoring (ambulatory ECG) costs approximately RMB 10 per hour; since a typical Holter test lasts 24 hours, the cost adds up. Moreover, heart disease patients require long-term ECG monitoring.
Furthermore, the characteristics of heart disease make home ECG monitors more readily accepted by the general public. First, heart disease is often transient and insidious. Many cardiac patients, particularly those in the early stages, may feel cardiac discomfort and seek hospital examination, but by the time they arrive, the symptoms have subsided, making it difficult to identify the cause and leaving doctors with limited options. Second, heart disease is characterized by its sudden and sporadic onset, often occurring in an instant. Many patients lose their lives before they can be transported to the hospital for treatment. However, in the majority of acute cardiac events, electrocardiogram (ECG) waveforms may exhibit changes prior to the episode. If patients can measure their ECG anytime and anywhere, thereby anticipating the risk of a sudden cardiac event, they may be able to seek timely medical attention. Wang Jianzhong believes that there is significant market demand and development potential for home-use ECG monitors. The Tete ECG monitor can help patients promptly detect cardiac arrhythmias, enabling early intervention, effective prevention, and long-term monitoring.
The Tete ECG monitor measures 85mm x 55mm x 12mm and weighs approximately 138g, making it pocket-sized and portable. It is capable of continuous ECG monitoring for up to 30 minutes. The device offers two measurement modes: finger-clip mode and electrode-patch mode. The finger-clip mode is designed for spot checks, while the electrode-patch mode is suitable for long-term monitoring. The finger-clip mode utilizes Lead I of the limb leads for measurement. To perform a routine measurement, users simply attach the finger clip, power on the acquisition box, and launch the mobile app to capture ECG signals. Wang Jianzhong told VCBeat that the finger clip used in the Tete ECG monitor is patented, eliminating the need for adhesive electrodes. This design avoids skin irritation associated with electrode adhesion and requires no consumables.
Wang Jianzhong introduced that the Tete ECG monitor can capture subtle abnormal electrocardiographic signals in any setting, with sensitive detection of 14 types of arrhythmias, including sinus arrhythmia and premature ventricular contractions. Once the ECG signals are acquired, the terminal interface displays information such as the electrocardiogram, heart rate, and ST-segment values. Notably, the device’s built-in patented expert algorithm performs real-time intelligent analysis of the signals and generates concise, easy-to-understand reports, enabling ordinary users to interpret their own ECG results. Users can also upload their data to Baidu Cloud, where physicians typically review the test results and provide recommendations within 24 hours. Another highlight of the Tete ECG monitor is its support for multiple users; by creating separate accounts, a single device can be shared among family members, allowing them to monitor their relatives’ health status anytime and anywhere. Additionally, the Tete ECG monitor offers features such as real-time monitoring with alerts, ECG trend analysis, and cloud storage via Baidu Cloud.
Wang Jianzhong stated that the core R&D team behind the Tete ECG monitor had long been engaged in research on high-end electrocardiographic instruments overseas, with several key engineers boasting over two decades of experience in the medical electronics industry. The Tete ECG monitor is a Class II medical device approved by the National Medical Products Administration (NMPA), holding 21 national patents—including one invention patent—and four software copyrights.
Currently, the Tete ECG monitor is priced at 1,498 yuan, with no service fees charged at this time. Users can download the companion software for Android/iOS free of charge.
Tete ECG devices are primarily sold online, with the company’s digital partners including Baidu Future Store, Jilin Pharmacy (on Tmall), and China Construction Bank’s online banking platform. Offline sales rely mainly on distributors, as the company seeks to collaborate with capable suppliers in each province who endorse its products.
Regarding future plans, Wang Jianzhong stated that the company’s next priority is to build the brand of its specialized ECG monitor, gradually increase market share, solidify product functionality, improve cost-effectiveness, and integrate with established distributors to strengthen the industry chain.
