2、TevaPharmaceutical Company Acquires Smart Asthma Inhaler Firm Gecko

Israeli generic drug giant Teva Pharmaceuticals to acquire U.S. smart asthma inhaler company Gecko Health Innovations. Specific details of the acquisition have not yet been disclosed.

Gecko’s flagship product is CareTRx, a chronic respiratory disease management platform that includes inhaler-connected sensor devices, a data analytics platform, a user interface, and electronic behavioral triggers to help patients with asthma and chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) manage their health.

Mark Maalouf and Yechiel Engelahard, founders of Gecko, stated that their collaboration with Teva aims to integrate CareTRx’s technology into Teva’s respiratory product portfolio to improve clinical outcomes.

Teva is the second pharmaceutical company to independently acquire a smart asthma inhaler company. Last year, biopharmaceutical company Opko acquired the Israeli smart asthma inhaler company Inspiron Medical to integrate smart hardware with its app and develop its own chronic disease management platform.
