“Patient engagement” often appears enigmatic, frequently eliciting expressions of confusion and bewilderment whenever it is mentioned. From the federal government to digital health startups, various stakeholders are actively taking measures to unravel this mystery. Why do clinicians, administrators, and other leaders find it perplexing, and what efforts are they undertaking to address it?

eVisits is a 24/7 online diagnosis and treatment platform in the United States, with over 100 million users. Recently, eVisits released an infographic detailing seven ways to enhance patient engagement.

Recently, the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) announced the establishment of a Patient Engagement Advisory Committee. This committee will provide recommendations to the FDA Commissioner on a range of issues, including the use and management of medical devices. In an official blog post, the FDA stated that the organization will focus on improving communication regarding benefits and risks, as well as integrating patient perspectives into the regulatory process. Historically, the development of new technologies aimed at improving patients’ lives has relied heavily on expert opinions, rather than soliciting the preferences of patients and their families.

In addition to government leaders, other stakeholders are also working to improve patient engagement. The eVisits infographic outlines communication strategies for promoting technology adoption among end users. These measures include:

• Access Online Medical Records
