On October 27, the Huimei Medical Health Management Team (hereinafter referred to as “Huimei Medical”) held a lecture on self-management for patients with diabetes at the Overseas Chinese Service Center in Weijia Hutong, Beijing. This was the second patient education event hosted by Huimei Medical in Beijing, and it marked the first step in officially implementing the Mayo Clinic knowledge system from the United States in China.
Luo Rushu, CEO of Huimei Medical, told VCBeat that as the China-based subsidiary of Mayo Clinic, Huimei Medical aims to disseminate Mayo’s 150 years of accumulated expertise. The introduction of Mayo’s knowledge system in China will primarily focus on two areas: patient education and providing community physicians with access to Mayo’s knowledge framework.
In terms of patient education, Huimei Medical will first introduce Mayo Clinic’s patient education philosophy to Chinese communities, empowering patients to achieve self-management. Meanwhile, it will provide a patient education team independent of physicians, with all experts drawn from Huimei Medical, including dietitians and exercise specialists. At the same time, Huimei Medical will help community physicians enhance their diagnostic and treatment capabilities by equipping them with knowledge.
In providing Mayo Clinic’s knowledge system to community physicians, Huimei Healthcare will leverage digital channels to disseminate concepts of patient education, health management, and physician services to grassroots community doctors across China. In the future, this system is expected to integrate with the information systems of Chinese community hospitals. Currently, Huimei Healthcare has completed the translation and localization of the relevant knowledge base.
Luo Rushu stated that this knowledge system categorizes diseases by type. Taking diabetes as an example, it addresses why diabetes should be suspected, which tests are required, at what stage the diagnosis falls, and what treatments are necessary. This system standardizes the diagnostic workflow for physician reference, enabling doctors from any specialty to perform standardized diagnoses without starting from scratch. This approach not only ensures treatment efficacy but also helps control medical costs, and the knowledge system is continuously updated.
Mayo Clinic is a non-profit organization with its own mission. In 2009, Mayo’s leadership set a goal: although the clinic could only see one million patients a year, its knowledge could reach 200 million people.
As Mayo Clinic’s subsidiary in China, Huimei Healthcare will draw on the advanced knowledge system and management expertise of Mayo Clinic, adhere to the core philosophy of “patient-centered care,” and strive to disseminate and develop Mayo’s extensive knowledge base and exceptional management practices in China. Committed to building China’s premier health management platform, it aims to deliver one-stop health services, making health benefits accessible to all.
