WiFi Signal Wall-Penetration Observation: Can See Through Clothes to Measure Human Pulse
Scientists at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology have developed a technology that uses Wi-Fi signals to observe through walls, capable of identifying individuals behind walls with 90% accuracy, while researchers in the United Kingdom have achieved the ability to discern human body contours through clothing.
According to reports, this technology not only enables scientists to visualize the silhouettes of experimental participants in adjacent rooms but also calculates their pulse and respiration rates. Known as the RF-Capture system, the technology operates by transmitting Wi-Fi signals through obstacles. When detecting human bodies beyond the line of sight, the RF-Capture system analyzes the return paths of the signals. The resulting data is then used to generate images.
Scientists believe that this new research invention elevates the care of isolated patients to a new level. For example, the RF-Capture system can autonomously analyze a patient’s movements within a room; if the patient falls or shows no vital signs, the system can automatically call for emergency assistance.

A 3D Finger Scanner Addresses Challenges in Early Arthritis Diagnosis, Facilitating Pharmacological Treatment
The EU project IACOBUS, led by the Fraunhofer Institute for Biomedical Engineering in Germany, has developed a finger scanner that addresses the challenge of early diagnosis of arthritis.
3D Finger Scanner: A Substitute for MRI in the Early Diagnosis of Arthritis. The finger scanner utilizes photoacoustic imaging technology. Patients simply insert their fingers into the device, where they are briefly exposed to laser pulses. This causes slight heating and expansion of the finger tissues, allowing the scanner to visualize joint inflammation through images, similar to Doppler ultrasound examinations.
To enable more precise examinations, researchers have also developed a hyperspectral imaging system that illuminates the finger with intense white light. By analyzing the wavelengths of backscattered light—since inflamed tissues absorb specific wavelengths—the progression of arthritis can be assessed. Experts believe that combining ultrasound imaging with hyperspectral imaging systems will fully enable the early diagnosis of arthritis.
Look at this technology—it completely shatters one’s preconceived notions.
