$340 Billion! The Largest Merger in U.S. Pharmaceutical History Nears Completion

According to Bloomberg, Pfizer is close to reaching an agreement with Allergan at a price of up to $380 per share. This represents a 22% premium over Allergan’s closing price of $310.38 on Wednesday.

According to insiders, the price agreed upon by the two parties is between $370 and $380. Based on Pfizer’s proposed acquisition price, the combined market capitalization of the two companies exceeds $340 billion. If the deal goes through, their merger will becomePharmaceuticalsOne of the Largest Mergers and Acquisitions in History.

For Pfizer, one of the primary objectives of this merger is to achieve tax avoidance through a “tax inversion.” However, another informed source stated that the guidance on tax inversions issued by the U.S. Department of the Treasury on Wednesday may hinder the finalization of the merger agreement.

Athos Secures $35.5 Million in Funding for Athlete Health-Sensing Apparel

Recently, Athos, a California-based wearable technology manufacturer, secured $35.5 million in financing led by Social Capital, with participation from Lightspeed Venture Partners, Felix Capital, and Joe Lacob, owner of the Golden State Warriors basketball team.

This funding round brings Athos’s total capital raised to $51.2 million. Athos’s most recent prior financing occurred in August 2014.

The Athos shirt features 16 sensors, 12 of which are used to track electromyography (EMG) signals, enabling athletes to monitor muscle exertion intensity, detect muscle fatigue, and determine whether they have achieved their exercise goals. The remaining two sensors are responsible for tracking heart rate, heart rate variability, and dual-pathway breathing patterns.

Athos pants feature eight electromyography (EMG) sensors and four heart rate sensors. The pants also include a small, circular device that transmits sensor data via Bluetooth to a companion app. Through the app, athletes can set training goals, monitor their progress throughout each session, and access historical training records.
