Gao Xingde, Founder of Yijia Kangtai: Insights on Effective Chronic Disease Management

At 1:00 p.m. on January 6, 2016, the 2016 “Caring for Critical Illnesses, Light of Hope” Spring Festival Gala officially commenced. Representatives from relevant Shenzhen municipal departments, leaders of anti-cancer organizations at the national, provincial, and municipal levels, the Shenzhen Publicity and Culture Fund, and the Futian District Project Office attended the event.

The event also specially invited Gao Xingde, founder of the charitable enterprise Yiplus Kangtai, to attend. Established in 2014, Yiplus Kangtai is committed to providing comprehensive health services and promoting the development of health big data, serving everyone’s healthy lifestyle. The company also offers genetic sequencing services and chronic disease management services for conditions such as cancer, hypertension, and heart disease.

Following the event, reporters conducted a brief interview with Mr. Gao Xingde, consulting him on several issues of widespread public concern. The following is the transcript of the interview.

Reporter: Why did you sponsor this event?

Gao: I have interacted with many cancer patients and their families, who are in great need of support. As a professional in the genetic testing industry, I have witnessed how recent advances in precision oncology have brought new hope to many patients, and I am eager to contribute. Through this collaboration with iKang Home, I aim to do my part to offer hope to the broader community of cancer patients and their families. Precision medicine can help many patients identify appropriate therapeutic agents, while also enabling cancer-free individuals to undergo screening for cancer prevention.

Reporter: The mobile health sector has been quite hot recently. What are Yi Jia Kangtai Platform’s insights on mobile health?

Gao: The distinguishing features of Yijia Kangtai’s services lie in resolving the efficiency and accuracy of doctor-patient matching prior to consultation, and addressing the structuring of patient medical records post-consultation. We primarily generate revenue through a comprehensive suite of services and partnerships encompassing genetic testing, chronic disease management, clinical healthcare institutions, and insurance. Currently, we collaborate with over 150 reputable hospitals, and our product portfolio includes devices for genetic testing, ambulatory blood pressure monitoring, and ambulatory electrocardiography (ECG).

Reporter: Chronic disease management is a relatively large-scale system. How did you implement it, Mr. Gao?

Gao: With over a decade of experience in the healthcare industry, I have amassed extensive resources. Furthermore, YiJia KangTai boasts an excellent technical team that ensures data security and efficacy while integrating with hospital HIS systems to acquire user data, including medication records, adverse reaction reports, and electronic medical records.

Reporter: Most of the performers at tonight’s gala are cancer patients, and I understand that some have been living with tumors for over a decade. As cancer has become a chronic disease, what do you think should be prioritized in the health management of cancer patients?

Gao: Emphasis should be placed on improving the quality of life for cancer patients, rather than rigidly adhering to the goal of “eradicating” cancer cells or obsessively pursuing a “radical cure” for cancer. Instead, we advocate a shift in perspective, employing gentler, non-toxic, and minimally invasive approaches to slow the growth rate of cancer cells or reduce tumor volume. Meanwhile, greater efforts should be made to enhance patients’ quality of life and extend their survival time. Attention should be paid to communication between physicians and patients, as well as between patients and their families, learning to alleviate negative emotions among patients and family members, and cultivating healthy dietary habits.
