It is reported that Kolibree, the manufacturer of the world’s first “smart electric toothbrush,” has recently secured $4 million in investment from SOSV, SEB Alliance, Innovacom, Cap Horn, and the Dental Investment Group for Health.
Kolibree’s world-first “smart electric toothbrush” made its debut at the 2014 CES. The toothbrush connects to a smartphone via Bluetooth, recording relevant brushing data during each session, which is then logged and analyzed by a companion mobile app. The Kolibree smart toothbrush features highly precise tracking capabilities, capturing not only brushing duration but also which specific teeth were brushed and whether the gums were cleaned. In addition, the app paired with this toothbrush offers educational games for children to help extend their brushing time.

“Kolibree’s products were officially launched in the second quarter of 2015, with sales steadily increasing throughout the year,” said Thomas, Founder and CEO of Kolibree. “In addition, our partnership with game developer Ubisoft and investment from SOSV will help Kolibree gain stronger momentum in 2016.”
According to VCBeat, Kolibree plans to allocate a portion of its investment toward establishing patent licensing agreements with TV game developers and further developing its app.
Similarly, Beam Technologies, another company that manufactures “smart toothbrushes,” secured $5 million in funding in 2014. The company once expanded its business to provide dental health insurance plans for employees of other companies. Beam Technologies offers smart toothbrushes free of charge to its members to track their brushing habits and rewards employees who demonstrate good brushing practices.
