Sui Tang is an intelligent management app funded by Beijing Zhenglue Tiancheng Health Management Co., Ltd. and jointly developed by the Scientific and Technical Literature Publishing House of China and a team of endocrinologists from several Grade 3A hospitals. It provides lifelong health management services, mobile medical consultation and treatment services, and dedicated physician services for individuals with prediabetes and diabetes. It is touted as “China’s first scenario-based education and behavior management platform for diabetes.”
On January 8, 2016, the launch event for the SuiTang APP was held at the Beijing National Convention Center.
In April last year, the SuiTang team conducted surveys in select Grade A tertiary hospitals in Beijing. The results indicated that 70% of diabetic patients in China currently fail to achieve adequate glycemic control. This situation stems from a severe lack of public awareness about diabetes, poor treatment adherence, and ineffective patient education and information dissemination. In this regard, Hu Hongliang believes that the most significant challenge in the diabetes care industry lies in patient education. He noted, “In our communications with physicians, they frequently emphasize the importance of patient education, as many diabetic patients are largely unaware of the hazards of diabetes and the critical nature of its management.”
Therefore, from the perspective of patient education, Suitang has built a scenario-based education platform. Hu Hongliang stated that Suitang provides users with omni-media health education resources, featuring hundreds of contracted experts across China, and utilizes text, video, and other formats to comprehensively disseminate knowledge about diabetes. The provision of differentiated scenarios is its distinguishing feature. Hu Hongliang explained that this is because the needs of diabetic patients vary significantly. “For instance, diabetic patients are in different stages, such as early or mid-stage, and even within each stage, patients have different economic levels and require different services.” Furthermore, through differentiation, Suitang can attract more patients, manufacturers, and other stakeholders.
SuiTang Interface
Sui Tang’s application scenarios include hospital settings (e.g., hospital databases), physician settings (e.g., renowned specialist databases), patient settings (e.g., health libraries), clinical diagnosis and treatment settings (e.g., clinical databases), manufacturer settings (e.g., pharmaceutical and medical device databases), and insurance settings (e.g., insurance databases). These scenarios serve to integrate processes, hardware, education, community services, and insurance. To date, Sui Tang has developed over 200 scenario architectures. However, the substantive content of these scenarios still requires negotiation and refinement with third-party healthcare institutions, including hospitals, physicians, pharmaceutical companies, and insurance providers. Currently deployed scenarios are primarily hospital-based; among approximately 100 hospitals where the system has been launched, more than 20 are actively providing services. In the next phase, Sui Tang plans to build additional scenarios and establish connections with scenario stakeholders, with a particular focus on promoting specialized scenarios such as gestational diabetes.
Electronic Medical Records (EMR) is another distinctive feature of the Suitang patient-facing platform. Typically, hospital EMRs are accessible only within the hospital premises, whereas Suitang’s EMR system can be used both inside and outside partner healthcare institutions.
Currently, SuiTang’s patient users are primarily sourced from numerous partner manufacturers. It is understood that during several months of public beta testing, SuiTang has already accumulated over 10,000 registered users.
“SuiTang Doctor” is the physician-facing platform of SuiTang, primarily offering features such as consultation management, patient management, appointment management, and traditional Chinese medicine (TCM) query. The TCM query function is integrated with an online database of TCM prescriptions.
Hu Hongliang revealed that Suitang has signed contracts with hundreds of doctors across China, who will be gradually onboarded to the platform. These physicians are primarily contracted author-contributors from the Scientific and Technical Literature Publishing House, specializing in endocrinology at Grade 3A hospitals. Their professional titles range from Resident Physician to Chief Physician.
Currently, the funding for the Sui Tang project primarily comes from joint investments by Adfaith Group and the Scientific and Technical Literature Press. The team consists of over 40 members, including 15 in research and development and design.
