Teladoc CEO Jason Gorevic recently released some of the company’s operational data for the previous year at the J.P. Morgan Annual Healthcare Conference in San Francisco. He also unveiled several new major clients and included an assessment of competitors in his presentation slides.

Gorevic estimated Teladoc’s 2015 revenue to be between $77 million and $77.5 million, representing a 77% year-over-year increase. In 2015, Teladoc also facilitated 575,000 online consultations between patients and physicians, a 92% increase from 2014.

Gorevic stated that Teladoc currently serves more than 6,000 clients, including corporate employees, health plans, and a growing number of healthcare providers. Additionally, it currently has 26 health plan programs. Recent major clients include Sony, Sprint (a global telecommunications company), and Merck & Co.

The team firmly believes that the telemedicine market remains largely untapped. Teladoc estimates that the total number of online consultations in 2015 did not exceed 1 million, which represents merely 0.5% of the potential market.

Healthcare service providers were a significant driver of Teladoc’s growth last year. In 2015, Teladoc became the first online consultation company to go public globally and simultaneously acquired Stat Health. This acquisition marked the launch of a new business segment at Teladoc, focused on healthcare provider clients, which includes a platform tailored to the unique needs of this group. Teladoc has recently added another healthcare provider client: East Jefferson in Louisiana.

At the J.P. Morgan Healthcare Conference, the most interesting part of Gorevic’s presentation was their description of the current state of telemedicine. This included the number of online consultations provided over the past year by several well-known telemedicine companies. It is reported that the consultation volumes for competitors were estimated by the Teladoc team based on its own data.

Teladoc, based on its assessment of competitors’ performance, is confident that it will surpass the combined total of its three rivals.
