“We are entering an era of personalized medicine, where patients expect meaningful and convenient personal health experiences,” said Kaveh, leader of Accenture’s Health practice, in a statement. The emergence of real-time patient data, smarter technologies, and personalized services will help healthcare providers move away from traditional business models and deliver outcome-oriented services to users.

The survey also found that 84% of healthcare professionals predict that over the next three years, the healthcare industry will need to prioritize training machines—including algorithms, intelligent software, and machine learning—much like training human staff. Meanwhile, 83% of healthcare executives believe that, due to the surge in clinical data, providers must begin to master the management of both these machines and their workforce.

“The momentum of the digital revolution is strong, with physicians leveraging machines to augment human labor, deliver personalized services, and handle more complex tasks,” said Kaveh. “The digital revolution is creating a goldmine of data, which has sparked medical breakthroughs and refined personalized treatment plans.”

Approximately 41% of health management professionals reported that their data volume increased by more than 50% in 2014. About 59% of managers stated that they use rule-based algorithms, 52% use machine learning, 49% use intelligent agents, and 45% use predictive analytics.
