According to the latest news, Zipnosis, a mobile telemedicine company that provides low-cost online consultations and prescription services for common illnesses, recently announced that it has secured $17 million in Series A financing. The investors include Safeguard Scientifics, Ascension Ventures, Fairview Health Services, Hyde Park Venture Partners, Arthur Ventures, Waterline Ventures, and Omphalos Ventures. Zipnosis, founded in 2010 and based in Minnesota, USA, previously secured $1.3 million in seed funding. The current investors are also highly prominent. Ascension Ventures, a subsidiary of Ascension, is part of the largest nonprofit Catholic health system in the United States. Fairview Health, the largest hospital group in Minnesota, operates seven hospitals and more than 30 pharmacies. The newly raised capital will be used to optimize the company’s marketing model, boost sales performance, and accelerate product development.

Zipnosis is the first virtual care solution that enables hospitals to launch their own branded virtual healthcare services using their in-house clinicians—optimizing physician time and improving clinical patient outcomes. Zipnosis leads health systems in clinical care, marketing, and medical workflow integration, ensuring the deployment of a tailored virtual care program within just 60 days.

Zipnosis licenses its technology and systems to hospitals on a “white-label” basis, providing a fully integrated virtual care platform. Some of the software developed by Zipnosis integrates electronic health records (EHR) and patient portal systems, enabling health systems to serve existing patients while also accepting new ones.

Zipnosis has developed an asynchronous telehealth platform that simulates face-to-face interactions between clinicians and patients, collecting necessary information for accurate diagnosis and providing clinicians with appropriate treatment plans. This platform meets users’ needs for a seamless experience: patients first log in to the health system’s official virtual care website to complete a brief, dynamic online interview, which gathers their basic information; then, based on the triage tools within Zipnosis’s algorithms, the interview data is routed to the relevant clinicians for further diagnosis and treatment.

Jon Pearce, CEO of Zipnosis, stated that approximately 35% of users and 90% of physicians access the service via mobile devices. Because physicians obtain comprehensive and accurate structured information, a diagnosis and treatment plan can be formulated in just about two minutes, demonstrating exceptional efficiency in the virtual healthcare market. Although the service is primarily based on online software, clinicians may use telephone or video consultations to gather additional patient information when necessary. Clinicians can also issue electronic prescriptions for medications to be delivered to the patient’s designated pharmacy, with patients required to respond within one hour.

Currently, Zipnosis offers more than 90 virtual care services and is expanding into the long-term care sector. In addition, Zipnosis collaborates with approximately 17 health systems across the United States, including Fairview Health Services in Minnesota, the University of Alabama at Birmingham, Group Health, and John Muir Health.

Jon Pierce, Co-founder and CEO of Zipnosis, stated, “Our platform is designed to help health systems effectively leverage their own clinical resources to expand patient access to care. Zipnosis creates a valuable opportunity for health systems to serve more patients by utilizing the fragmented time of medical staff, without the need to add additional hospital personnel, thereby significantly improving healthcare efficiency. Patients can quickly receive satisfactory care without enduring long waits in waiting rooms or even leaving their homes. We thank our investors for their trust in our team and technology. With this support, we will provide innovative pathways for more mainstream medical and health systems and expand our partnerships across the United States.”

Al Wiegman, CEO of Safeguard and a member of the Zipnosis Board of Directors, stated, “It is remarkable that Zipnosis offers health systems an opportunity to retain existing patients while tapping into new patient populations. Virtual medical visits are becoming increasingly common, enabling diagnosis and treatment without the need for patients to be physically present for face-to-face consultations with clinicians. As clinical protocols become more rigorous, this approach may yield better therapeutic outcomes. We are delighted to collaborate with the Zipnosis team to support the continued expansion of the Zipnosis platform, delivering high-quality, cost-effective healthcare services to a broader user base.”

“Zipnosis is actually a great partner for healthcare systems—by creating an asynchronous virtual consultation platform that meets the needs of both patients and physicians,” said Helen Ciesielski, another investment partner. “It has immeasurable impact on the future of telemedicine, including the development of innovative products like ZipTicket—which acts as an electronic priority ticket for patients in their clinics—and it can integrate into hospitals’ existing workflows and information systems to ensure continuity of care. This is something other products on the healthcare market cannot surpass.”
