Heavyweight 2016 Chronic Disease Internet+ Forum Announces Prospectus

Feb 17, 2016 09:31 CST Updated 09:31

On December 1, 2015, the National Health and Family Planning Commission issued the "Notice on Doing a Good Job in the Pilot Work of Tiered Diagnosis and Treatment for Hypertension and Diabetes," which clarified the key tasks of tiered diagnosis and treatment for hypertension and diabetes, and outlined a service flowchart for the tiered diagnosis and treatment work.

In accordance with the requirements of the National Health and Family Planning Commission, key tasks for the tiered diagnosis and treatment of hypertension and diabetes include establishing health records for patients under this tiered system, clarifying the functional roles of medical institutions at different levels, implementing a team-based contracted service model, and defining standard service processes for the tiered management of hypertension and diabetes.

To better integrate hospitals, physicians, patients, the government, medical insurance providers, and commercial insurers through “Internet+” initiatives in the field of chronic disease management, thereby forming a synergistic force and ultimately achieving data-driven decision-making and services for chronic disease management.

2016 Internet+ Chronic Disease Forum will bring together elites from medical societies, primary care hospitals, experts, mobile health companies, pharmaceutical firms, insurance companies, and investors to discuss Internet+ solutions for chronic diseases. While fostering intellectual exchange among these stakeholders, the conference will focus on in-depth analysis of hot topics such as data connectivity and integration in chronic disease management, ecosystem building and business model exploration for the Internet-based chronic disease industry chain, and tiered diagnosis and treatment.

Tong Weidong, founder of Tangyi, stated that the internet is merely a medium, while healthcare remains the core. He believes that chronic disease management can only achieve optimal efficiency by truly penetrating to the grassroots level. In this process, it is essential to converge forces from all sectors to strengthen primary care and safeguard health, thereby balancing the interests and demands of all stakeholders. Only then can tiered diagnosis and treatment for chronic diseases be realized.

Cen Minghua, founder of Chengyi, stated that chronic disease management currently faces three challenges: insufficient health management awareness among patients, limited energy and resources available to physicians, and a lack of effective tools for chronic disease management. In the era of "Internet Plus," chronic disease management should be patient-experience-centric, enhancing patients' self-management awareness. It should establish physician teams comprising doctors from tertiary hospitals, county-level hospitals, and community health centers as the primary service providers, empowering physicians to become operators and promoters of chronic disease management. Meanwhile, mobile healthcare service applications should be leveraged to provide comprehensive, effective, and convenient support for both physicians and patients. As the healthcare payment system continues to improve, patient experience will steadily enhance.

Zhang Zuo, CEO of Yi Liu Zhu Shou (Oncology Assistant), stated: “Whether it is chronic disease management or tiered diagnosis and treatment, the challenge lies in bridging gaps across time and space. The defining characteristics of the internet are connectivity and information aggregation. In response to the trend of integrating healthcare with the internet, Yi Liu Zhu Shou has entered the oncology care ecosystem by focusing on the intra-diagnostic phase. Building upon a physician team-based patient management system, we continue to expand into scenarios such as doctor-patient communication, patient education, hospitalization scheduling, and follow-up guidance, actively exploring solutions to enhance the efficiency of oncology medical services.”

Niu Xiaoqiang, founder of Qingwutong Gene, believes that the latest advances in precision medicine technology can help improve chronic disease management models and address many previously intractable problems. These technologies will play a key role in early detection, blocking pathogenic pathways (disease-causing genes), adjunctive pharmacotherapy, subphenotyping of diseases, and disease progression monitoring (proteomics). In the future, they will also provide greater opportunities for drug development and gene therapy. Furthermore, if large-scale genetic screening is conducted among populations susceptible to chronic diseases and integrated with primary care within the tiered diagnosis and treatment system, a new model for chronic disease prevention and treatment will emerge. This approach would significantly enhance the effectiveness of tiered diagnosis and treatment, potentially curbing the rising prevalence of chronic diseases and addressing major issues concerning public welfare and national health.

This forum was initiated and hosted by the “Diabetes Education and Management Branch of the China Medical Promotion Association,” co-organized by “VCBeat,” undertaken by Tang Yisheng, Cheng Yisheng, and Yi Liu Zhushou, with media support from “China County Health.”
