The Market for the Medical and Health-Elderly Care Industries Is Huge

“The 13th Five-Year Plan” proposes to strengthen and expand innovation in medical healthcare, and achieving this goal is inseparable from innovation.

As early as 2013, China’s pharmaceutical industry had already reached a scale of RMB 2 trillion. It is an undisputed fact that the growth rate has slowed down, and future industry expansion will primarily be driven by innovation. The main gap between China and its international peers lies in the area of innovation; therefore, during the “13th Five-Year Plan” period, innovation will be a key focus for encouragement.

To achieve incremental growth, the key lies in enhancing the innovation capacity of the pharmaceutical industry during the 13th Five-Year Plan period to realize upgraded development. We should fully leverage tools such as the internet and big data to boost the innovation capabilities of pharmaceutical enterprises, organize collaborative innovation among diverse innovation entities, optimize the allocation of innovation resources, avoid redundant R&D, and improve capital efficiency.

From a market perspective,The healthcare and elderly care industries in China have a huge potential market. The accelerating aging of China’s population is driving growing demand for the health and elderly care industry. However, as China rapidly transitions from an upper-middle-income to a high-income country, diverse and personalized health and elderly care needs are continually increasing, necessitating market-driven approaches to meet this demand.

This is also one of the major reasons why the related mobile health industry has risen rapidly in recent years.Data projections indicate that the mobile health market will surpass RMB 10 billion in 2017. Meanwhile, the State Council has proposed that the scale of the health services industry will reach RMB 8 trillion by 2020. This enormous market opportunity will undoubtedly accelerate the pace of development across the entire sector.
