Cleveland Clinic providers will deliver online and telehealth services to users of CVS MinuteClinic locations across Ohio. The service is reportedly supported by remote video technology from the telehealth company American Well.
Dr. Peter Rasmussen, Medical Director of Telemedicine at Cleveland Clinic, stated in a report: “Our telemedicine service is a long-term development initiative. It is not only well-received by patients but also helps Cleveland Clinic expand its reach and serve more individuals in need. We believe it is crucial to eliminate barriers of time and space, and we have already achieved initial success in Ohio.”
MinuteClinic, one of the four major business segments of CVS Health, the largest retail pharmacy provider in the United States, is also known as a walk-in clinic. Patients do not need to register or make appointments in advance; they can simply walk into the clinic, describe their symptoms to a nurse, and receive diagnosis and treatment from a physician. Hence, it is vividly described as "walk-in." CVS operates the largest number and scale of such quick-care clinics in the United States.
Founded on February 28, 1921, and located in Cleveland, Ohio, the Cleveland Clinic is a nonprofit, multispecialty academic medical center that integrates clinical care, patient services, research, and education. It has become one of the busiest and most innovative medical centers in the world and is among the largest and most prestigious hospitals in the United States.
American Well, a telehealth company that earned AOPC (Accreditation for Online Patient Consultation) certification last year, has collaborations of varying degrees with CVS MinuteClinic and the Cleveland Clinic.
Last November, Cleveland Clinic announced its first partnership with American Well. American Well launched an American Well-powered app called Cleveland Clinic Express Care, which provides patients with 24/7 access to professional urgent care services.
Several months ago, CVS Health announced that it was establishing partnerships with three telehealth companies—American Well, an online physician consultation service platform, and Teladoc, a remote medical consultation provider—to expand their telemedicine capabilities and services.
In fact, the Cleveland Clinic also partnered with other telemedicine companies last year. For instance, several months ago, Pursuant Health (formerly SoloHealth) announced a collaboration with Cleveland Clinic Wellness, a partnership that has significantly expanded the company’s health-related business offerings.
