Medical Information Provider
On April 14, 2016, the 2nd Mobile Medical and Health Exhibition, organized by Creative Era Exhibitions, officially opened at the Shenzhen Convention and Exhibition Center. Among the numerous exhibitors, TOPSKY attracted significant attention from attendees with its internet platform strategy featuring dual entry points for health checkups and clinics.
KangKang Health Checkup Network, MinKang Clinic SaaS Platform, and KangKang Online APP constitute the core of TOPSKY Group’s internet business. KangKang Health Checkup Network serves a broad range of domestic health examination centers, corporate group checkups, and individual clients with health screening needs; MinKang serves China’s most grassroots medical institutions, namely clinics; while KangKang Online leverages the collection, storage, and mining of electronic health records from its B-side operations—KangKang Health Checkup Network and MinKang Clinics—to deliver more precise and comprehensive internet-based healthcare services to a larger scale of C-end users.
Within TOPSKY’s business layout, Kangkang Health Checkup Network serves as the traffic gateway for healthy individuals, while Minkang Clinic Platform acts as the traffic gateway for patients, thereby occupying two critical nodes in the broader health industry. Both Kangkang Health Checkup Network and Minkang Clinic Platform are B2B internet platforms with substantial business traffic and cash flow, standing in stark contrast to most internet healthcare projects that struggle to generate effective revenue. The Kangkang Online APP targets individual consumers, leveraging health checkup centers and clinics to extend services into both pre- and post-diagnosis/checkup stages. It absorbs the vast number of members and electronic health records (EHRs) referred from the B2B platforms, aiming to build the largest EHR service platform. These three entities operate independently yet support one another, offering significant advantages amid the crowded landscape of internet healthcare initiatives.
Kangkang Checkup: Bridging the Health Examination Industry Chain Across “Pre-Exam, During-Exam, and Post-Exam” Stages
Kangkang Health Checkup Network is dedicated to providing health checkup seekers with the most cost-effective selection of institutions and packages. It offers personalized customization and appointment services for checkup items tailored to individual needs. Users can access these customization and booking services via three platforms—PC, mobile, and self-service kiosks—to accommodate diverse consumer preferences. Additionally, the platform provides a one-stop post-checkup health management service, including post-examination consultations, chronic disease management, and health interventions.
Li Dianzhao, Founder and Chairman of TOPSKY, told VCBeat that Kangkang Checkup Network was established to address three major pain points in the physical examination industry: “cookie-cutter checkup packages,” “lack of post-examination service management,” and “difficulty in organizing and preserving checkup reports,” thereby maximizing the value of health examinations.
Since its launch, Kangkang Physical Examination Network has covered nearly 4,000 medical examination institutions across China, offering tens of thousands of health checkup packages nationwide. Its client base includes many well-known domestic enterprises such as Huawei and 58.com, with services extending to over 600 cities throughout the country.
It is understood that Kangkang Checkup Network is currently integrating the “pre-examination, during-examination, and post-examination” health industry chain, connecting with health service sectors such as pharmaceutical e-commerce, appointment registration, health management, and chronic disease management.
Minkang ClinicSAASPlatform: Connecting Private Clinics
In light of major industry trends, such as the national implementation of tiered diagnosis and treatment systems and policies encouraging physicians to practice at multiple locations, primary healthcare institutions—particularly private clinics—are poised to play an increasingly vital role in China’s future healthcare system.
Addressing the comprehensive needs of private clinics, Minkang delivers end-to-end information services built on an internet-based SaaS platform. These services include membership management, appointment scheduling, electronic medical record (EMR) management, medication management, billing management, post-consultation follow-up, chronic disease management, physician training, two-way referral, remote consultation, third-party laboratory testing interfaces, and supply chain integration. By enabling clinics to conduct online marketing and promotion, equipment financial leasing, centralized procurement, and commercial health insurance sales and administration, Minkang helps clinics increase revenue, reduce costs, and enhance overall operational efficiency.
Kangkang Online: A Health Management Service Platform Based on Precise Electronic Health Records
Currently, the Kangkang Online APP leverages deep partnerships with over 3,000 health examination centers and 15,000 private clinics to provide informatics services including the collection, storage, and data mining of health examination reports, outpatient electronic medical records (EMRs), and inpatient EMRs. By breaking down information silos across pre-diagnosis, during-diagnosis, and post-diagnosis stages, it offers an e-commerce platform driven by healthcare service referrals.
It is reported that since the launch of the Kangkang Online app, the average daily number of reports has reached 15,000, and registered users have rapidly surpassed one million.
For nearly two decades, the team led by Li Dianzhao, founder of TOPSKY, has been dedicated to entrepreneurship in the field of Hospital Information Systems (HIS). Its “Xinglin Qixian Health Checkup Informatics” solution commands nearly one-third of the market share among approximately 9,000 health checkup centers across China. This extensive experience has laid a solid foundation in technology and resources, providing a strategic entry point for accessing big data in the broader health industry.
In the traditional realm of healthcare informatization, TOPSKY’s health examination software has focused its business processes on the intra-examination phase, helping health checkup institutions optimize their workflows. By centering on improving hospitals’ examination efficiency, it has thrived in this domain. In recent years, as public health awareness and willingness to undergo health screenings have gradually improved, the foundational market for health examinations has continued to grow, with premium health checkups becoming increasingly popular. From the perspective of the examination workflow, pre-examination appointment scheduling has already become relatively mature, whereas post-examination health management services still hold significant room for growth.
At the end of 2014, the company initiated business restructuring, team building, and feasibility studies. It ultimately decided to focus on the query, storage, and management of health records (including physical examination reports, electronic medical records, outpatient prescriptions, and laboratory test results) as its entry point. The initial objective was to completely eliminate paper-based records, with gradual expansion into various areas of health management, such as big data analytics, telemedicine, mobile health management, and smart hardware technologies. Health record management characterized by intelligence, mobility, and big data will impact fields including health promotion for healthy individuals, sub-health management, and chronic disease management.
In October 2015, TOPSKY secured over RMB 60 million in Series A financing, led by Matrix Partners China, and is currently undergoing a new round of financing.
