On May 31, Ping An Insurance (Group) Company of China, Ltd. officially launched its new Health Cloud product, “Portable Medical Records.” Centered on the management of electronic health record (EHR) files, “Portable Medical Records” establishes an intelligent healthcare and big health platform based on cloud technology.

“Health Cloud” refers to an application service that provides hospital management and resident health record management to all hospitals and related medical institutions via a cloud platform using the SaaS (Software as a Service) model. According to reports, the newly released “Portable Medical Record” encompasses multiple services: authorized management of electronic medical records, family health record management, health risk assessment, and health safety with accident protection. It applies financial-grade information security cloud technology to the healthcare sector and includes corresponding information security measures and accident insurance. It is reported that partnerships have already been established with over 100 hospitals. The product is currently in its trial operation phase and is scheduled for official launch in the third quarter of this year. Upon launch, it is expected to cover tens of millions of users.

At the press conference, Rong Guoqiang, Vice Chairman of Ping An Technology, stated, “The ‘Portable Medical Record’ is a powerful tool leveraged by Ping An Health Cloud to enhance the efficiency of medical information management. Through this innovative product, we aim to advance the development of healthcare informatization and enable portable health management. Guided by the principles of fairness, professionalism, and intelligence, we are committed to ultimately creating an efficient and secure health ecosystem.”

In his 2015 New Year’s address, Ma Mingzhe, Chairman of Ping An Group, unveiled the company’s strategic framework for internet finance, summarized as “four markets, two clouds, and one gateway.” The “two clouds” refer to the “Asset Cloud” and the “Health Cloud.” Li, Chief Strategy Officer of Ping An Technology, stated, “Ping An Health Cloud is another vital force in healthcare launched by Ping An Group following ‘Ping An Good Doctor.’ 2016 marked the year when Ping An Group adopted the ‘Internet + Finance’ development model and ushered in the industry-wide ‘3.0 Era,’ with ‘platform’ and ‘openness’ being the key themes of its 3.0 strategy.” Recently, Ping An Good Doctor, a subsidiary of Ping An Group, announced the completion of a $500 million financing round.

“Personal Health Records” collaborates with multiple medical institutions, enabling patients to organize their electronic health record (EHR) data. During medical consultations, patients can provide detailed historical health information to physicians, facilitating rapid and accurate clinical decision-making. This approach minimizes redundant testing and reduces the incidence of missed or misdiagnoses, while also establishing a critical informational foundation for future personalized precision medicine. Globally, the United States adopted EHR systems earlier than many other countries, with numerous large healthcare organizations having accumulated over a decade of EHR data. In addition to hospital-generated EHR data, U.S. healthcare big data encompasses diverse sources, including insurance claims records, pharmacy records, and government medical assistance programs. Currently, EHR vendors in the United States primarily serve hospitals and physicians.
