Samsung S Health Expands Healthcare Ecosystem in China Through Strategic Partnerships with Leading Domestic Providers

On June 25, at the Wuzhen Internet Healthcare Conference, Samsung Group of South Korea unveiled for the first time its core strategic layout centered on “S Health,” the built-in health management app on Samsung smartphones. Currently, Samsung has established a mobile healthcare ecosystem platform, integrating leading domestic health and medical partners such as Xunyi Wen Yao (Ask Doctors), Alibaba Health, and Codoon.

Since its inception, mobile healthcare has consistently attracted significant attention and enthusiasm from investors. Particularly in the context of the national “Internet Plus” healthcare initiative advocated last year, numerous industry leaders have entered the mobile healthcare sector. According to the “Series of Research Reports on the Medical and Health Industry” released by CCID Consulting in 2015, the total market size of China’s medical and health industry is projected to exceed RMB 8 trillion by 2020.

The advantage of investment by internet companies lies in their robust platforms, which can directly channel user traffic. This reflects a typical traffic-centric mindset. However, healthcare differs from other internet products that generate revenue through technology or advertising, and individuals are unlikely to be the primary payers. The core of healthcare lies in standardized and comprehensive services.

After a period of explosive growth, mobile healthcare has transitioned from an era of isolated efforts to one of collaborative operations. Careful research reveals that no single app currently dominates the market. Instead, many companies are engaging in cooperation to explore and innovate within the internet healthcare sector, strategically positioning themselves in the “Internet + Healthcare” market.

The partnership between Samsung and XYWY.com is grounded in the unique characteristics and context of the current internet healthcare market. As one of the earliest healthcare service providers to join the Samsung S Health platform, XYWY.com is now a one-stop internet healthcare service platform in China and among the country’s pioneers in exploring and implementing internet-based medical services. In 2015, XYWY.com had over 100 million registered users, with more than 20 million daily unique visitors and over 300 million monthly unique visitors.

The newly integrated “Ask a Doctor” and “Symptom Self-Check” features are flagship offerings of Xunyi Wenyao. It is understood that this collaboration will expand the respective user bases of Samsung and Xunyi Wenyao. By leveraging the user health monitoring data aggregated on Samsung’s S Health platform and integrating Xunyi Wenyao’s online self-diagnosis and consultation services, the partnership aims to create a seamless transition from health monitoring to medical consultation, and ultimately to comprehensive mobile healthcare services. This integration will unify user health data to deliver personalized and precise medical health services. In terms of complementary strengths, Xunyi Wenyao will become one of the key entry points for online medical services within Samsung’s digital health platform, while Samsung’s large smartphone user base will broaden the reach of Xunyi Wenyao’s services. In the future, wearable hardware developed by Xunyi Wenyao and Samsung may also be given priority access to each other’s platforms.

To date, the development of mobile healthcare has reached a stage where, regardless of which online medical product users choose, they ultimately need only one major platform to integrate and manage their personal data. Currently, consumer-side medical data platforms in the market are numerous, highly fragmented, and lack continuity, which often hinders effective data utilization. Only through platform integration that consolidates individual data can big data unlock its extraordinary value.

Behind the collaboration between Samsung and XunyiWenyao Network lies the more valuable integration of their vast user data. In the healthcare industry, an individual’s health data accompanies them throughout their lifetime, with each person possessing a unique set of health records. If this information is effectively consolidated, diagnosis and treatment can be performed at home via smart devices. Furthermore, during medical consultations, patient data such as medical history, laboratory reports, and genomic information will provide critical support for physicians’ diagnostic decisions.

Similarly, big data offers unique advantages in reshaping and optimizing personal health management. Leveraging its extensive big data assets and leading cloud computing technologies, XYWY.com (Xunyi Wen Yao) conducts comprehensive analyses to assist physicians in making more accurate patient diagnoses and reducing medical risks. By implementing full-lifecycle management of individual health, the platform ensures the consistency and continuity of health information, thereby providing patients with more precise and detailed healthcare solutions.

Data itself does not generate value; the key to modern healthcare lies in how effectively big data is leveraged. In the era of big data, data collection and storage address the feasibility of mining, while the integration of various types of information and data answers the question of “what to mine.” Data fusion better unleashes the agglomeration effect of information, enabling enterprises to develop superior, high-quality products.
