Online Medication Purchases: Quality Is the Core Issue

According to media investigations, the top concern regarding online medication purchases is “buying counterfeit drugs.” Poll results show that nearly 70% of respondents expressed this concern.

Currently, there are more than 500 approved and licensed online pharmacies across China, with a surge of 159 new additions in the past year alone. As Guangdong’s first legally operating B2C internet pharmaceutical enterprise, Jianke obtained the “Certificate for Internet Drug Transaction Services” in 2009 and has established strategic partnerships with over 5,000 major domestic drug manufacturers, enabling direct drug supply.

Amid the rising number of complaints regarding the quality of products purchased online, many citizens are concerned about how to buy authentic medications over the internet. Xie Fangmin pointed out that, in fact, state supervision of online pharmacies is already quite stringent. “The entry barriers are high and oversight is strict; only entities with specific qualifications can obtain operating licenses, and all transaction processes are conducted under the close supervision of the drug regulatory authorities and the administration for industry and commerce.”

Nearly 30 Companies Join Forces to Establish Authentic Product Alliance

Jianke.com, in partnership with nearly 30 pharmaceutical companies including Pfizer, GlaxoSmithKline, Bayer, Beijing Tongrentang, and Guangzhou Pharmaceutical Holdings’ Baiyunshan, established China’s first “Authentic Products Alliance” for the pharmaceutical e-commerce sector in Guangzhou. The founding council members of the Authentic Products Alliance simultaneously signed the Jianke Authentic Products Alliance Agreement to ensure direct supply of branded, authentic medications. “We believe that more pharmaceutical companies will join the Authentic Products Alliance in succession, collectively promoting self-discipline and standardized operations to foster the healthy development of the online medication purchasing industry,” said Xie Fangmin.

As one of the founding board members of the Genuine Product Alliance, a representative from Eli Lilly and Company stated at the press conference, “Jianke.com, as a leading pharmaceutical e-commerce enterprise in China, has consistently enjoyed a strong reputation within the industry. The launch of the Genuine Product Insurance in collaboration with Taikang Insurance aligns well with the needs of industrial manufacturers.”

When asked how Guangzhou Pharmaceutical Holdings Limited (GPHL) Baiyunshan, as a leading domestic pharmaceutical manufacturer, ensures product quality in its collaborations with pharmaceutical e-commerce platforms, a company representative stated: “Guangzhou Pharmaceutical Holdings Baiyunshan will strictly adhere toGMPManagement Requirements: Strictly Control Production Quality.

The official also candidly stated, “When selecting partners for pharmaceutical e-commerce, Baiyunshan places significant emphasis on the business philosophy and strength of its clients to achieve a win-win outcome. It is believed that as large insurance companies accelerate their collaboration with pharmaceutical e-commerce platforms, pharmaceutical manufacturers will more rapidly embrace this digital channel. The entry of insurance giants such as Taikang Online will further strengthen Guangzhou Pharmaceutical Holdings’ Baiyunshan branch’s confidence in its partnership with Jianke.com.

Enhanced Authenticity Insurance: Double Protection for Online Medicine Purchases

At the press conference, Jianke.com and Taikang Online Insurance formally signed an agreement on their collaboration for the Genuine Product Insurance. As a pharmaceutical e-commerce platform, Jianke.com partnered with Taikang Online Insurance to officially launch the Genuine Product Insurance, committing that all self-operated products sold through its online pharmacy are genuine.

Currently, Jianke.com has insured all of its self-operated products through Taikang Online Insurance. If consumers have any doubts about the quality of the purchased drugs, they can file a claim and receive full compensation by providing valid documentation from relevant authorities within a specified period.

“The idea of a ‘Genuine Product Insurance’ partnership was something I brought up during my very first meeting with Mr. Xie. Although major e-commerce platforms have well-established precedents for such insurance, there are few examples in the pharmaceutical e-commerce sector. This is because ‘pharmaceuticals’ is a highly sensitive term, carrying significant liability,” said Fang Yuanjin, Vice President of Taikang Online.
