Established just six months ago, Taikang Online, a wholly-owned subsidiary of Taikang Life Insurance, has engaged in multiple rounds of deep collaboration with internet giants such as Taobao, 360, and Tencent within an exceptionally short timeframe. Notable initiatives include “Leyebao,” launched in partnership with Taobao, and “Feichangbao,” developed in cooperation with Qihoo 360. The widespread recognition Taikang Online has garnered stems not merely from its backing by Taikang Life Insurance; what has particularly earned it industry acclaim is its adherence to the “short, flat, and fast” internet-driven operational model.
In terms of collaboration, in addition to traditional internet giants, Taikang Online will partner with enterprises in the broader health sector that possess advantages in patient-doctor resources or products—such as internet healthcare providers (including those serving vertical populations and specialized disease categories), innovative public medical institutions, mid-to-high-end private medical institutions, health service organizations offering physical examination and rehabilitation services, precision medicine companies, and smart wearable device manufacturers—to seek new market opportunities.
Key Focus This Issue: Taikang Online and Wenkang Group Collaborate to Develop New Insurance Products.
“Wenkang Group’s collaboration with insurance companies represents a significant strategic initiative, marking its exploration and experimentation with new service and revenue models,” Jiang Tianjiao, General Manager of the Strategic Development Department at Wenkang Group, told VCBeat. During this “+Insurance” campaign, Wenkang Group, as one of the earliest enterprises to venture into internet healthcare, leveraged resource exchange and complementary strengths through its partnership with Taikang Online Insurance, jointly promoting the integration of internet healthcare and insurance services.
Wenkang Group’s strengths lie in its ability to deliver large-scale, cost-effective healthcare services and its vast user base—precisely the core resources that insurance companies require.
The decision to partner with Taikang Online was primarily driven by its dynamic and open-minded approach to innovation across technology, products, and services. Meanwhile, Taikang Online’s collaboration with Wenkang Group enables its tens of millions of insurance customers to access more diverse and high-quality medical and health services.
Currently, the collaborative advantages between Wenkang Group and Taikang Online are mainly manifested in three aspects:
First, Wenkang Group boasts substantial traffic and a large user base. Its subsidiary, XYWY.com (Xun Yi Wen Yao), has over 100 million registered users, with daily page views (PV) exceeding 100 million and daily unique visitors (UV) reaching 20 million;
Secondly, Wenkang Group offers a comprehensive range of services. Its online services include online consultations, outpatient appointment scheduling, family doctor services, telephone medical consultations, and health management, while its offline services encompass regional healthcare solutions. By creating a closed-loop integration of online and offline services, the group has built a one-stop internet healthcare platform that delivers an exceptional user experience. Furthermore, in specialized segments such as medical aesthetics, maternal and infant care, and liver disease, Wenkang Group provides more in-depth, vertically integrated service products.
Furthermore, Wenkang Group has amassed a rich repository of data. Over the past decade, the Group has leveraged its proprietary platforms to collect vast amounts of data from diverse online and offline channels, including residents’ electronic health records (EHRs), patients’ electronic medical records (EMRs), and consultation logs. These comprehensive professional datasets will play a pivotal role in enabling precise services in the future.
In Winkang’s strategic planning, insurance is a key industry stakeholder. On the two core platforms for doctors and patients established by Winkang Group, four major industry stakeholders—medical institutions, pharmaceutical manufacturers, pharmaceutical distributors, and insurance companies—will be connected through three critical enablers: technology, data, and services. Traditional insurers, emerging internet-based insurance companies, and insurance brokerage platforms will all represent directions for its business expansion.
It is understood that the collaboration between Wenkang Group and Taikang Online primarily includes procurement of doctor-patient services, joint development of new insurance products, and integration of traffic entry points.
Currently, Taikang Life Insurance has procured Winkon Group’s appointment and referral services, patient escort services, telephone doctor services, and more. Meanwhile, Winkon Group and Taikang Online will engage in deeper product customization collaborations in insurance categories such as female breast cancer insurance, general public anti-cancer insurance, and future diabetes insurance.
The new insurance products jointly developed by both parties are currently in the pilot phase.
