The Mayo Clinic in the United States, founded in 1863, has established the largest and most technologically advanced integrated healthcare system in the nation, built upon a foundation of continuously innovative medical education and world-leading medical research.

Initially renowned for its cardiology department, the Mayo Clinic has evolved into an integrated institution encompassing medical care, scientific research, and education. It comprises the Mayo Clinic in Rochester, St. Marys Hospital, Rochester Methodist Hospital, as well as a medical school and graduate school. Additionally, it has established two new campuses in Scottsdale, Arizona, and Jacksonville, Florida. With Rochester as its hub, the Mayo Medical Center accounts for more than 30,000 of the city’s 100,000 residents.

Edward C. Kendall and Philip S. Hench of Mayo Clinic were awarded the 1950 Nobel Prize in Physiology or Medicine for their discovery of cortisone and its successful clinical application. The clinic performed the world’s first open-heart surgery using cardiopulmonary bypass. To date, the center (with three campuses) has built a large, elite team comprising 53,208 healthcare professionals, including 3,317 physicians and scientists.

At Mayo Clinic, what physicians value most is their engagement with patients. The Mayo philosophy holds that without close relationships established between all healthcare staff and patients, the hospital would be merely a building. Every individual working at Mayo Clinic takes pride in the institution and is committed to making it a place that heals people’s physical, spiritual, and emotional ailments, rather than simply a facility for treating disease.

On January 21, 2015, Mayo Clinic announced the formal establishment of a joint venture in China with Hillhouse Capital, named “Huimei Healthcare Management Co., Ltd.,” serving as its corporate entity for official entry into the Chinese market. The joint venture will comprehensively introduce Mayo’s medical technologies, management expertise, and training systems through expert exchanges, technical collaboration, talent exchange, education and training, and management consulting, with a commitment to accelerating the localization of Mayo Clinic in China.

Mayo Clinic Values

2. A nursing attitude of “Everyone here cares about you”;

3. A favorable environment facilitates diagnosis, treatment, and recovery;

4. The power of a team is always greater than that of an individual.
